Main Purpose of the Role


The Marketing Director is responsible for leading the strategy and execution of marketing efforts within the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease (CMVD) portfolio. This leadership role requires both strategic vision and tactical excellence to drive brand growth, market share, and innovation in a competitive pharmaceutical landscape.

The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the Indian pharmaceutical market, a strong background in marketing and leadership, and a proven ability to challenge conventions and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams. This role also demands a commitment to regulatory compliance, ethical standards, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic Marketing Leadership

  1. Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to accelerate business growth and expand market share.
  2. Design long-term brand and portfolio strategies aligned with global objectives and tailored to the Indian market.
  3. Conduct ongoing market and competitive analysis to identify strategic opportunities.
  4. Monitor marketing performance metrics, using insights to recommend and implement improvements.
  5. Drive innovation by testing new marketing models, customer engagement strategies, and digital platforms.
  6. Build strong relationships with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and industry stakeholders.

B. Marketing Process Operational Excellence

  1. Lead the annual marketing planning cycle, including research, positioning, segmentation, targeting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  2. Establish structured marketing processes that align with sales, training, business excellence, medical, regulatory, and supply chain functions.
  3. Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and return on investment (ROI) metrics for marketing activities.
  4. Ensure all marketing initiatives comply with local regulatory requirements, industry codes, and internal company policies.

C. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  1. Act as a strategic liaison between marketing, sales, medical, regulatory, commercial excellence, and training teams to ensure seamless execution.
  2. Collaborate with global and regional marketing counterparts to adapt international best practices to local needs.

D. Digital and Data-Driven Marketing

  1. Lead digital transformation efforts within the marketing function, promoting the use of CRM, social media, HCP portals, and digital detailing.
  2. Leverage data analytics and real-world evidence to guide strategic decisions and optimize customer segmentation and messaging.

E. Team Management and Leadership

  1. Build, lead, and develop a high-performing marketing team through coaching, mentorship, and skill development.
  2. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and agility.
  3. Manage talent development and succession planning within the department.
  4. Encourage continuous improvement, creativity, and proactive thinking within the team.

Key Requirements


  1. Educational background in life sciences, business, marketing, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including significant leadership roles in marketing and sales.
  3. Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  4. Demonstrated success in digital marketing and omnichannel engagement.
  5. Strong strategic thinking capabilities with the ability to translate insights into impactful marketing plans.
  6. Exceptional communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
