Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end US payroll operations for multiple clients, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage and mentor a team of payroll associates/consultants, providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues and client queries, ensuring resolution within required timelines.
  • Review payroll runs, final settlements, adjustments, and compliance reports to maintain accuracy and adherence to client agreements and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee multi-state payroll registrations and filings, ensuring proper setup, tax compliance, and reporting.
  • Establish and monitor payroll processes, internal controls, and audit procedures to safeguard data integrity and compliance.
  • Drive operational efficiency by identifying opportunities for process improvements, automation, and standardization across payroll engagements.
  • Monitor and manage workload allocation, billable hours, and project budgets to meet firms financial and operational goals.
  • Partner with senior leadership in client onboarding, project transitions, and payroll system implementations.
  • Stay current with US payroll laws, tax updates, and regulatory changes; provide insights and ensure implementation of required updates across client accounts.
  • Support payroll audits and compliance reviews, preparing necessary documentation and coordinating with external auditors when required.
  • Contribute to business growth by supporting proposals, client presentations, and demonstrating payroll expertise to prospective clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in US payroll operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong expertise in multi-state payroll, payroll tax compliance, and related reporting requirements.
  • Professional certification preferred: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional).
  • Hands-on experience with leading US payroll systems and related software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles and reconciliations.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate staff.
  • Excellent communication and client management skills, with ability to explain payroll concepts clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
