Lead Piping & Layout Engineer

Role Summary

The Lead Piping & Layout Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering piping engineering and layout activities across the full project lifecycle — from Concept/FEED to Detailed Design, Procurement Support, Fabrication, Installation, and Commissioning. The role ensures full compliance with project scope, specifications, and applicable codes & standards, while coordinating with multi-discipline teams to achieve quality and schedule targets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering & Design

• Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping engineering as per project specifications, design criteria, and international codes (ASME, API, ASTM).
• Prepare key engineering deliverables — design basis documents, philosophies, reports, calculations, GA drawings, isometrics, support details, MTOs, and material requisitions.
• Review and approve piping layouts, 3D model quality, isometrics, and support designs; ensure alignment with P&IDs, accessibility, safety, and constructability.
• Coordinate and review pipe stress analysis, vendor documents, and ensure compliance with project and contract requirements.
• Maintain 3D model–P&ID consistency and manage engineering revisions and data integrity across all project stages.

2. Project Planning & Control

• Develop discipline execution plans, responsibility matrices, manpower plans, interface matrices, and MDRs aligned with project schedules.
• Monitor progress, man-hours, and deliverables to ensure timely completion within budget.
• Manage procurement interfaces, prepare technical material requisitions, and support material control for standard and exotic/high-value items.
• Raise and close TQs, deviations, engineering change requests, and manage scope variations.
• Coordinate efficiently with process, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, instrumentation, procurement, and construction teams.

3. Leadership & Team Coordination

• Lead and supervise piping engineers, designers, and 3D modelers; assign tasks, review deliverables, and ensure quality output.
• Mentor junior staff and support workshare execution with partner or satellite engineering offices.
• Ensure effective communication with project teams, clients, vendors, shipyards, and fabrication yards.

4. Construction & Site Support

• Provide technical support during fabrication, erection, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning stages.
• Conduct site visits or onboard inspections when required.
• Review construction drawings, verify as-built information, resolve field queries, and manage punch lists or modifications.

5. Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all engineering and design deliverables meet company quality standards, project specifications, applicable international codes, and class requirements.
• Promote and uphold company HSE standards, integrity, professional ethics, and safety culture throughout project execution.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• 15–20 years of experience in piping engineering for Oil & Gas, Offshore, Onshore, FPSO, or EPC projects.
• Strong expertise in topside/onshore facility piping layout, modularization, and design development.
• Solid understanding of P&IDs, equipment layout, mechanical handling, safety, and relevant international codes/standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D tools such as SP3D, E3D, AVEVA Marine, etc.
• Strong working knowledge of MTO preparation, calculations, stress coordination, vendor document review, procurement support, and material management.
• Excellent planning, coordination, leadership, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel or work at fabrication yards/offshore locations as project requirements demand.
