Job Description

Lead Backend Developer

Role Overview:

As the Lead Backend Developer, you will be the primary architect of our server-side ecosystem. With 7–10 years of experience, you are expected to design systems that are not just functional, but resilient, secure, and highly observable. You will lead the backend engineering team, making critical decisions on infrastructure, database design, and API strategy that will support our growth for years to come.Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • System Design & Architecture:

    Design and maintain scalable microservices or modular monoliths. You will be responsible for choosing the right architectural patterns (e.g., Event-Driven, Hexagonal, or CQRS) based on project needs.

  • Database & Data Integrity:

    Oversee complex schema designs, migrations, and performance tuning for both Relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Cassandra) databases.

  • API Ecosystem:

    Define and enforce standards for high-performance APIs (REST, GraphQL, or gRPC), ensuring robust documentation and versioning strategies.

  • Scalability & Infrastructure:

    Work with DevOps to manage cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure). Implement caching layers (Redis/Memcached) and message brokers (Kafka/RabbitMQ) to handle high-traffic loads.

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship:

    Lead a team of 5+ backend engineers through the full SDLC.
  • Act as the final "gatekeeper" for code quality through rigorous architectural reviews.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the development process and implement CI/CD improvements.

    • Technical Requirements

    • Years of Experience:

      7–10+ years in backend engineering, with a history of building systems that handle significant scale.

    • Language Proficiency:

      Deep expertise in at least one primary backend language (e.g., Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Python) and the ability to pick up others as needed.

    • Cloud & Containers:

      Extensive experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Deep knowledge of cloud services (Lambda/Functions, Managed Databases, VPCs).

    • Security First:

      Expertise in implementing OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and ensuring compliance with data protection standards (GDPR/SOC2).

    • Observability:

      Experience implementing logging, tracing, and monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Datadog).

    Leadership & Strategic Skills

    • Strategic Trade-offs:

      Ability to articulate when to choose "boring" technology versus cutting-edge tools.

    • People Management:

      Experience in performance reviews, career pathing for engineers, and managing distributed or hybrid teams.

    • Crisis Management:

      Proven ability to lead a team through production incidents and conduct meaningful blameless post-mortems.
