Lab Incharge / Laboratory Manager

𝗜. 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆

The Lab Incharge is the central figure responsible for the technical validity and operational efficiency of the testing laboratory. This role ensures that all testing and calibration activities comply with the requirements of 𝗜𝗦𝗢/𝗜𝗘𝗖 𝟭𝟳𝟬𝟮𝟱 and the National Accreditation Board for 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗡𝗔𝗕𝗟).

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱: 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 / 𝗟𝗮𝗯 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 / 𝗤𝗔 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿

· Perform and supervise metal tests (𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲, 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁, 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼, 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼 𝗲𝘁𝗰.) 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 & 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗨𝗧𝗠, 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁, 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘁𝗰.)

𝗜𝗜. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

𝗔. 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗡𝗔𝗕𝗟/𝗜𝗦𝗢 𝟭𝟳𝟬𝟮𝟱)

Establish and Maintain Quality System: Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) as per ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Document Control: Create, review, and control all quality documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, Quality Manuals, and internal forms.

Audit Management: Serve as the primary liaison during NABL audits and assessments. Conduct regular Internal Audits to monitor compliance and identify non-conformities.

Corrective Actions: Investigate and address all non-conformities, customer complaints, and deviations from the QMS using methods like root cause analysis, and implement effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).

Inter-Laboratory Comparison (ILC): Manage and ensure participation in proficiency testing programs (PT/ILC) to validate the accuracy of test results.

𝗕. 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁

𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Ensure all test methods (Standard, Non-Standard, and Laboratory-Developed) are properly verified and validated before use.

Equipment Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and calibration of all laboratory equipment (e.g., UTM, Hardness Testers, Microscopes) to ensure traceability and accuracy.

Review and Authorization: Review, evaluate, and authorize final test reports and certificates, ensuring they accurately reflect the testing performed and comply with relevant standards (IS/ASTM/ISO).

Uncertainty of Measurement (MU): Ensure the calculation and proper reporting of Measurement Uncertainty for all accredited tests.

C. Personnel Management and Training

𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: Oversee and manage the d𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗮𝗯 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Competence: Assess and ensure the competence of all laboratory personnel for the tasks they perform.

Training: Provide and arrange training on test methods, quality system procedures, and safety protocols for all staff.

Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety and health practices.

III. Qualifications and Skills

𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱.

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝟱+ 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴/𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, with significant experience in a supervisory or quality management role.

Core Knowledge: Extensive, proven knowledge of the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard and its implementation in a NABL-accredited environment.

𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀: Proficiency in the relevant tests (e.g., mechanical, metallurgical) and experience with data analysis and quality control tools.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills for staff management and external interaction (e.g., with NABL and clients).
