Job Description

The IT System Administrator is responsible for the stable operation, maintenance, and security of the organization's computer systems, networks, and servers. This role involves ensuring optimal system performance, troubleshooting issues, implementing security measures, and providing technical support to end-users. The System Administrator plays a critical role in supporting the organization's technological infrastructure and ensuring business continuity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System and Network Management:
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), software, and hardware (servers, workstations, printers, etc.).
  • Manage and configure network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
  • Monitor system performance, network traffic, and server health to ensure optimal operation and identify potential bottlenecks or issues.
  • Perform regular system updates, patching, and security configurations.
  • Manage and maintain virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Administer and maintain network file systems and shared resources.
  • Security and Data Protection:
  • Implement and maintain robust security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and antivirus solutions.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and execute data backup and disaster recovery plans, ensuring data integrity and business continuity.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, access rights, and Active Directory administration.
  • Stay informed about emerging security threats and best practices.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
  • Provide technical support to users for hardware, software, and network-related issues, both in-person and remotely.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system failures, outages, and performance problems promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for future reference.
  • Assist with onboarding new employees by setting up user accounts and providing necessary access.
  • Documentation and Improvement:
  • Maintain comprehensive internal documentation of IT infrastructure, system configurations, processes, and procedures (e.g., via a Wiki).
  • Lead or participate in process improvements and modifications to enhance IT efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Research and recommend new technologies, products, and services to improve the IT environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.
  • Communicate effectively with non-technical users to explain complex technical issues and provide solutions.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external service providers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV), CCNA) are highly desirable.
  • Experience:
  • Proven experience (typically 3-5+ years) as an IT System Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience with server administration (Windows Server, Linux servers).
  • Experience with network administration, including configuring and troubleshooting network devices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • In-depth knowledge of various operating systems (Windows, Linux/Unix).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
  • Familiarity with database administration (SQL) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues effectively.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to system configuration, security, and documentation.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical staff, and to create clear documentation.
  • Adaptability: Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to a rapidly evolving IT landscape.
  • Time Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to other sites if required.
  • May be required to work outside of regular business hours for system maintenance, upgrades, or emergency support.
  • May be on-call for critical system issues.
