Information Technology Specialist

Fourth Frontier is looking for a talented, self-driven IT Specialist to join our expanding team.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

● Supervising daily operations of network and server infrastructure

● Aligning IT infrastructure with current and future business requirements and goals

● Evaluating risk, developing network recovery and backup processes

● Assessing and purchasing new and replacement hardware

● Assuring that IT activities are within the limits of applicable laws, codes and regulations

● Testing, troubleshooting and adjusting information systems to operate effectively

● Implementing security of the network, data and its storage and communication system

● Consulting with clients and departments to estimate and resolve IT issues

● Administering data and network security for departments including system firewalls, antivirus, group policy and email security

● Coordinating the needs of in-house IT experts and remote employees, vendors and contractors

● Preparing budget estimates used by executives to plan, organise and schedule work

● Installing, configuring and monitoring wireless network systems

● Providing training to fellow employees about network security and the best computer usage practices

● Creating, analysing, reporting, converting and transferring data through systems using application software

● Serving as the first point of contact for IT support within the organisation

● Installing, configuring and maintaining software and hardware components of computer and network systems

● Diagnosing and troubleshooting software and hardware issues

● Repairing and replacing damaged computer and network components

● Ensuring the security of client and server computers by installing and upgrading antivirus and firewall software

● Supporting people whenever they encounter challenges with computers and network devices

● Maintaining and updating technical documentation regularly

● Testing new hardware and software before full-scale installation

Essential skills, qualifications and experience:

Experience:

4 years experience in a similar IT role with a technical organisation

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in IT, computer science or a related discipline

Skills:

● Proficiency in the working of servers, networks, computers and peripherals

● Extensive knowledge of system security and procedures for protecting the organisation’s data from intrusion or corruption

● Proficiency in multiple programming languages

● Excellent communication and customer support skills

● Advanced knowledge about hardware and software configuration

● Ability to prioritise tasks and create their work schedules with minimal supervision

● Excellent troubleshooting, creative and technical problem-solving skills

Desirable criteria:

● Experience in IT support roles, software and hardware installations, networks, operating systems or similar positions.

● Experience solving technical difficulties in cloud platforms, networks and hardware configuration.

● Exposure to technical writing. Scripting experience with programming languages such as Python, Perl and BASH is also beneficial.
