Job Title: Head – Maintenance Mechanical Level: M-6 Function: Beneficiation Plant Asset: Beneficiation Plant Location: Sagasahi Company: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited Reports To: Head – Beneficiation Plant Job Purpose To lead and manage mechanical maintenance activities of the Beneficiation Plant to ensure high plant availability, capacity utilization, and zero breakdowns. The role involves strategic planning, spares management, cost control, and adherence to safety protocols. Organizational Structure Reporting To: Head – Beneficiation Plant Direct Reports: Mechanical Maintenance Team (As per Org Chart) Key Responsibilities1. Plant Availability Ensure smooth operations through preventive and predictive maintenance of equipment. Carry out breakdown maintenance efficiently with minimal downtime. Monitor and assess equipment health regularly to avoid unexpected failures. 2. Spares and Maintenance Cost Management Plan and execute predictive maintenance with focus on cost control and performance. Follow standard operating procedures for maintenance tasks. Identify and procure critical spares while focusing on indigenization and cost-efficiency. 3. Inventory Cost Management Standardize spare part specifications and vendor selection. Plan spares requirement based on criticality and failure history. Optimize inventory with population ratio and failure rate considerations. 4. Tailing Disposal & Dam Management Monitor tailing pipelines and ensure effective water recovery from the tailing dam. Regularly assess dam conditions and maintain safe overflow water levels. 5. Executive Development & Performance Management Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews of mechanical engineers. Create performance contracts aligned with business plans. Promote capability building and employee development initiatives. 6. Safety & Health Ensure 100% compliance to safety standards across the plant. Collaborate with the Safety Department for audits and continuous improvement. Key Challenges Maximizing equipment availability and efficiency (MTBF & MTTR) in a remote plant location. Advanced planning and resource mobilization due to logistical constraints. Exploring multiple options for seamless maintenance execution. Key Decisions i. Independent: Finalize preventive maintenance schedules with Operations to align with low production periods. Lead shutdown planning and execution in coordination with other departments. ii. Recommendations to Superior: Suggestions for improving equipment efficiency and inventory optimization strategies. Cross-Functional Interactions Internal: Collaborate with Production for operations-related maintenance. Coordinate with E&I teams for integrated shutdown execution. Work with CSR for resolving external/local issues. External: Engage with mechanical workshops for machining and boring. Synchronize loading plant and RMH conveyor maintenance activities. Manage tailing dam issues through effective stakeholder engagement. Dimensions Financial: Opex & Capex Management Maintenance Budget Planning and Control Spare Parts and Inventory Management Team Size: 21 (as per current org structure) Skills & Knowledge i. Education & Certifications B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering ii. Experience15–20 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in mineral processing or beneficiation plants. iii. Functional Skills Strong knowledge of mechanical systems in pelletization and beneficiation Expertise in slurry pumps, piping systems, and mineral processing equipment Maintenance strategy and execution (preventive, predictive, breakdown) iv. Behavioral Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Strategic planning and coordination abilities Behavioral-based safety leadership Ability to work under pressure and resolve conflicts tactfully
