Garment Production Controller

Job Summary

The Garment Production Controller is responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling the entire production process to ensure on-time delivery, adherence to quality standards, and efficient workflow. This role requires strong organizational skills, knowledge of garment manufacturing processes, and the ability to coordinate between multiple departments including cutting, stitching, finishing, quality, and logistics.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Scheduling

• Create detailed production plans based on order quantities, delivery dates, and production capacity.
• Allocate workloads to cutting, stitching, and finishing units.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.

2. Workflow Coordination

• Ensure smooth handover of styles from merchandising to production teams.
• Coordinate between pattern-making, cutting, sewing lines, washing, finishing, and packing departments.
• Ensure all departments follow the approved T&A timeline.

3. Monitoring Production Progress

• Track daily output and WIP (Work in Progress) across all lines.
• Identify bottlenecks or delays and resolve them proactively.
• Ensure production stays within efficiency targets.

4. Quality & Compliance

• Work closely with QA teams to ensure all quality standards are met during production.
• Address quality issues quickly to avoid line stoppages or rework.
• Ensure compliance with buyer requirements and internal SOPs.

5. Material & Resource Management

• Coordinate with stores for timely availability of fabric, trims, and accessories.
• Ensure no production disruption due to material shortages.
• Monitor utilization and minimize wastage.

6. Vendor & Unit Coordination (if outsourced)

• Oversee production at external units/factories, ensuring correct planning and output.
• Conduct regular visits to vendors to check progress and quality.
• Provide daily updates to management on vendor performance.

7. Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain production reports including daily output, line efficiency, defects, and WIP.
• Update management on production status, challenges, and capacity utilization.
• Record all style-specific production notes for future reference.

8. Process Optimization

• Recommend improvements to reduce lead times and increase productivity.
• Identify training needs for operators and supervisors.
• Work with industrial engineers (if available) to optimize line layouts.

Skills & Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Production, Textile Engineering, or related field.
• 3–7 years experience in garment production (knits/wovens depending on the company).
• Strong knowledge of garment manufacturing processes from cutting to packing.

Preferred:

• Experience in export manufacturing environments.
• Ability to interpret tech packs, patterns, and operation breakdowns.
• Operational knowledge of machines and sewing techniques.
