Job Description

The Café Captain is responsible for leading the service team on the café floor, ensuring smooth operations, maintaining service standards, and creating a positive guest experience. Acting as the link between the café manager and the staff, the captain oversees daily service, handles guest concerns, and motivates the team to deliver excellent hospitality. The captain should also be skilled in preparing and serving coffee, beverages, and basic café drinks. Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Guest Relations • Greet and interact with customers warmly and professionally. • Ensure guests receive prompt, courteous, and efficient service. • Handle guest complaints and concerns effectively, escalating to the manager if required. • Upsell menu items, promote specials, and encourage repeat visits. Team Leadership & Coordination • Supervise waiters, baristas, and support staff during shifts. • Allocate tables, assign duties, and monitor staff performance. • Train new team members in service standards, etiquette, and café policies. • Motivate staff to maintain enthusiasm, teamwork, and a positive work environment. Coffee & Beverage Skills • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and other beverages according to café standards. • Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and hygiene for all drinks. • Guide staff on proper beverage service techniques. • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee counter/bar area. Operations & Standards • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of the café floor at all times. • Monitor table settings, presentation, and service flow. • Assist in stock checks, ordering supplies, and minimizing wastage. • Maintain proper cash handling and billing procedures. Reporting & Support • Report daily operations, issues, and feedback to the Café Manager. • Suggest improvements in service quality and customer engagement. • Assist with promotions, events, or café parties when required. Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience as a café captain, supervisor, or senior waiter. • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. • Excellent communication in English/Hindi (or local language as required). • Knowledge of café menu, coffee preparation, and beverage service. • Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure. Work Conditions • Flexible to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. • Standing and walking for extended periods. • Ability to lift trays, supplies, or light equipment.
