Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and proactive

Material Procurement Engineer

to join our team for a Greenfield project. The role involves managing end-to-end procurement activities of mechanical equipment and materials, ensuring timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and quality compliance. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and a good network with vendors and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Sourcing:
  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, FRP components, valves, compressors, etc.
  • Float RFQs (Request for Quotation), evaluate commercial and technical offers, and conduct negotiations.
  • Ensure timely procurement in line with project timelines and budget constraints.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure cost competitiveness and quality.
  • Technical Evaluation & Vendor Coordination:
  • Coordinate with engineering and design teams for material specifications.
  • Perform technical bid evaluations (TBE) in collaboration with project and design engineers.
  • Conduct vendor audits, technical capability assessments, and site visits when necessary.
  • Manage vendor drawing/document review process in coordination with engineering.
  • Project Planning & Coordination:
  • Align procurement schedules with project execution timelines.
  • Work closely with project management, construction, and logistics teams to ensure seamless delivery and material availability.
  • Prepare and maintain procurement status reports and dashboards for stakeholder updates.
  • Commercial Negotiations & Compliance:
  • Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery conditions, warranties, and penalties.
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and ethical standards.
  • Manage contract execution and resolve commercial disputes with vendors, if any.
  • Inventory & Logistics Coordination:
  • Liaise with stores and logistics for delivery follow-ups, inspection coordination, and material inwarding.
  • Monitor inventory levels and raise alerts for critical or delayed components.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
  • 4–8 years of experience in procurement/material sourcing in industrial or infrastructure projects, preferably Greenfield or Brownfield setups.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical components: pumps, motors, gearboxes, FRP tanks/piping, valves, etc.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, or other ERP tools) and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for vendor and internal stakeholder management.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
