Position Overview

Environmental and Geo-Hydrologist Expert

This role demands both scientific rigor and practical field-based insights, offering the opportunity to influence grassroots change and contribute to long-term sustainability goals in water-stressed regions.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Flood Risk & Hydrology Analysis

• Perform catchment and basin-level flood risk mapping and vulnerability analysis
• Model rainfall-runoff relationships using hydrological tools
• Design flood mitigation and watershed recharge interventions

2. Groundwater & Water Resource Management

• Conduct aquifer mapping, well inventory studies, and groundwater quality sampling
• Develop and implement recharge strategies and water budgeting frameworks
• Lead data collection, interpretation, and sustainable usage plans of water resources

3. Water Quality Monitoring

• Oversee physical, chemical, and biological water testing protocols
• Interpret water quality data and propose remediation strategies
• Guide IEC activities on safe water practices in communities

4. Watershed & Grey Water Management

• Plan and execute low-cost, community-based water harvesting structures
• Promote greywater reuse through innovative design and village-level adoption
• Ensure convergence with MGNREGA and other government schemes for scalability

5. Environmental Assessments & Mapping

• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIA) and develop mitigation plans
• Create GIS-based maps to visualize hydrological and ecological zones
• Use remote sensing tools to monitor vegetation, land use, and water bodies

6. Reporting & Team Collaboration

• Draft detailed technical reports, progress documentation, and policy briefs
• Train field coordinators, interns, and village-level water champions
• Liaise with government departments, academic institutions, and funding partners

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s Degree in Geology, Hydrology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field
• At least

  10 years

  of proven work experience in:
• Watershed Management
• Water Resource Planning
• Groundwater Recharge
• Grey Water Management
• Environmental Survey & Mapping
• Water Quality Assessment
• Experience in executing large-scale projects in rural, semi-urban, or hilly terrains

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in hydrological modeling tools (e.g., SWAT, MODFLOW, HEC-RAS)
• GIS and Remote Sensing Tools (QGIS/ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine)
• Analytical software (Excel, R, Python, etc.)
• Familiarity with state and national water policies and climate adaptation strategies
• Strong problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in the field under diverse environmental conditions
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Hindi
