Job Summary

The Engineer - NPD will be an integral part of the New Product Development team, primarily responsible for supporting the complete product lifecycle from concept design to successful production launch. This role involves assisting in design, prototyping, testing, and documentation for new sheet metal components and assemblies, ensuring they meet customer specifications, quality standards, and manufacturability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and Development Support

• Assist in the creation and modification of 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid works).
• Support the design team in performing feasibility studies and analyzing design options for cost-effective and efficient solutions.
• Prepare and maintain detailed product documentation, including specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM), and Engineering Change Notes (ECN/ECO).
• Collaborate with the tool room team during the in-house tool design and manufacturing phases for new components.

2. Prototyping and Testing

• Coordinate with the workshop and external vendors for prototype development and sample preparation.
• Assist in setting up and conducting product testing and validation activities (e.g., strength testing, dimensional checks, salt spray tests for coatings) to ensure product performance and reliability.
• Document test results, analyze data, and provide feedback to the senior NPD team for design optimization.

3. Manufacturing and Quality Liaison

• Work closely with the Manufacturing, Production, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure that new product designs are Design for Manufacturability (DFM) compliant.
• Participate in APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) activities and assist in the preparation of quality documents like PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions.
• Support the initial production runs and troubleshoot any engineering issues that arise during the pilot batch phase.

4. Project Management

• Assist the NPD Manager in tracking project timelines and ensuring key development milestones are met.
• Maintain organized records of all project-related drawings, reports, and communications.
• Communicate technical information clearly and professionally to cross-functional teams and occasionally to customers.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: DME or BE(Mechanical)
• Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience in product design or New Product Development, preferably within the Automotive or Sheet Metal fabrication industry.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in at least one major CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Basic understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes (Stamping, Welding, Brazing, Machining, Plating and Surface Coatings like CED/Powder Coating).
• Knowledge of core automotive quality tools is a plus (APQP, PPAP, FMEA).
• Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Eagerness to learn, proactive attitude, and ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
