Role Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Duck Creek Migration Expert to play a pivotal role in our most strategic projects. You will be the central figure in planning, architecting, and executing migrations from legacy systems (e.g., Guidewire, CSC, in-house solutions) or older versions of Duck Creek to the latest Duck Creek platform, often on a new cloud environment (e.g., AWS, Azure).
You are not just a developer or an administrator; you are a strategic problem-solver who understands the full lifecycle of an insurance transformation and can mitigate the risks associated with large-scale data and functionality migration.
Key Responsibilities
- Migration Strategy & Planning:
- Lead discovery workshops to analyze legacy systems (e.g., Policy, Billing, Claims), assess data quality, and define migration scope.
- Develop comprehensive migration strategies, including "Big Bang" vs. phased approaches, and build detailed project plans with realistic timelines.
- Identify technical and business risks, and develop robust mitigation and rollback plans.
- Technical Architecture & Design:
- Design the technical architecture for the target Duck Creek environment, ensuring it is optimized for performance, scalability, and cost.
- Architect and design custom migration tools, frameworks, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
- Define data mapping rules, transformation logic, and validation criteria to ensure data integrity and business rule fidelity.
- Execution & Leadership:
- Hands-on leadership in building, configuring, and executing migration scripts and utilities.
- Oversee the extraction of data from source systems, its cleansing and transformation, and its loading into the Duck Creek platform.
- Manage and mentor a team of developers and analysts involved in the migration process.
- Collaborate closely with functional consultants, business analysts, and client stakeholders to ensure business requirements are met.
- Testing & Validation:
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for migrated data, including reconciliation reports to validate counts, sums, and critical business logic against the legacy system.
- Lead UAT (User Acceptance Testing) support, troubleshooting, and resolving any data or functionality issues arising from the migration.
- Cutover & Go-Live:
- Plan and lead the final migration cutover activities, ensuring a smooth and controlled transition to the new production environment.
- Provide post-go-live hypercare support to address any immediate migration-related issues.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience with the Duck Creek Platform, with a proven track record of leading at least 2-3 end-to-end migrations to Duck Creek.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Must Have: Deep expertise in Duck Creek Author and Data Transformation tools.
- Must Have: Strong programming skills in C# and .NET for building custom migration utilities.
- Must Have: Expert-level knowledge of SQL and experience with complex data modeling, mapping, and ETL processes.
- Highly desirable: Experience with Duck Creek's Standard Data Format (SDF) and Duck Creek On-Demand (SaaS).
- Highly desirable: Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS (S3, Lambda, Step Functions, RDS).
- Functional Knowledge: Solid understanding of P&C insurance domains, especially Policy Administration and Billing. Familiarity with industry-standard data models (e.g., ACORD) is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong project management and leadership abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Duck Creek Developer Certification.
- Experience migrating from specific legacy systems like Guidewire, CSC's AMS, INSURI, or DXC.
- Experience with DevOps/CI-CD pipelines and source control (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
