The Senior Crane Designer is responsible for independently leading the design and development of various types of cranes including EOT, HOT, Gantry, Jib, and Goliath cranes. The role requires strong technical expertise, analytical ability, and leadership in executing complete design projects — from concept to manufacturing drawings — ensuring alignment with safety standards, quality benchmarks, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design & Engineering Execution:

  • Lead the design of cranes and lifting equipment as per project specifications and load requirements.
  • Perform detailed mechanical and structural calculations for girders, end carriages, hoists, and trolleys.
  • Prepare and review 2D & 3D models, fabrication drawings, and GA layouts using AutoCAD / SolidWorks.
  • Select appropriate materials, motors, drives, and gearboxes in coordination with the electrical team.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes such as IS 3177, IS 807, FEM, DIN, and ISO standards.
  • Validate existing designs for load testing, stress analysis, and safety factors.

2. Project Management & Coordination:

  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously and ensure timely delivery of design outputs.
  • Coordinate with production, purchase, quality, and dispatch teams to address design-related challenges.
  • Work closely with sales and estimation teams to provide technical inputs during bid preparation and project costing.
  • Guide and review the work of junior designers and drafters to maintain accuracy and consistency.

3. Technical Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare design documentation including load calculations, BOMs, design approval sheets, and technical reports.
  • Implement version control and maintain detailed design records for audit and traceability.
  • Ensure compliance with company’s confidentiality, quality, and documentation policies.

4. Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Continuously review and optimize crane designs for cost efficiency, ease of manufacturing, and improved performance.
  • Suggest improvements in design standards, material selection, and manufacturing practices.
  • Stay updated with advancements in design software, crane components, and safety technologies.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong command over AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and structural analysis tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical design principles, structural stability, and load distribution.
  • Hands-on experience in designing EOT, HOT, Gantry, and Goliath cranes.
  • Familiarity with electrical components integration (VFDs, control panels, motors, drives).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
  • Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and decision-making ability.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 to 10 years in crane design or material handling equipment design.
  • Proven track record in executing end-to-end crane design projects independently.
