Location: Bengaluru
About Insight TechnologiesA company passionate about scientific engineering challenges, focused on path-breaking technology advancements in Special Purpose Machine (SPM) and Fixture manufacturing.
Experience - Minimum 3 years to 5 years (IMMEDIATE JOINERS) Preferred
Job Purpose To estimate, analyze, and control costs for all child parts involved in SPM and Fixture manufacturing. This role ensures cost accuracy, process feasibility, and optimization in materials and manufacturing methods to support design, procurement, and management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
A. Cost Estimation
Prepare detailed costing for child parts including machined, fabricated, turned, and sheet-metal components.
Break down cost elements such as raw materials, machining time, tooling, welding, grinding, heat treatment, surface finishing, and assembly.
Estimate costs for buyout parts and standard components (cylinders, bearings, fasteners, etc.) as well as in-house parts.
Update cost sheets based on design revisions or process changes.
Ensure costing accuracy within 5% of actual manufacturing costs.
B. Material Process Planning
Identify correct material grades like MS, EN series, SS, Aluminum, and estimate stock sizes.
Plan raw material cutting layout to minimize scrap.
Select suitable manufacturing processes (Turning, Milling, Grinding, Boring, Welding, Wire-Cut, EDM) as per part geometry.
Estimate cycle times and machine-hour costs using process capability data.
Suggest process improvements or alternate manufacturing routes for cost optimization.
C. Vendor Procurement Support
Float Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and collect part-wise quotations from vendors.
Verify vendor cost breakdowns (material, machining, finishing).
Support purchase team in price negotiation and vendor selection.
Compare in-house versus vendor manufacturing feasibility.
Maintain vendor costing records for future reference.
D. Drawing and Bill of Materials (BOM) Understanding
Read and interpret 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
Extract and validate BOM for SPM and Fixture assemblies.
Identify standard, bought-out, and custom parts.
Check tolerances, surface finishes, and special process requirements affecting costs.
Coordinate with design and manufacturing teams for technical clarifications.
E. Documentation and Reporting
Prepare and maintain cost summary reports for each project.
Update and control cost database and standard cost library for child parts.
Present costing summaries and deviation reports to management for project approval.
Maintain costing templates, process norms, and machine rate sheets in shared folders.
Required Skills and CompetenciesStrong knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, and assembly.
Good understanding of fixture and SPM design basics.
Analytical mindset with strong Excel and data handling skills.
Effective interdepartmental communication skills (Design, Purchase, Production, Vendors).
Knowledge of industrial cost structure and shop floor time estimation.
Working RelationshipsInternal: Purchase, Production, Stores, Planning departments.
External: Vendors, Subcontractors, Material Suppliers.
Selection ProcedureCV/Resume shortlisting.
Technical interview conducted at company location.
