Job Description

We are looking for an experienced **Construction Labour Manager** to supervise and coordinate the workforce on construction sites. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing labor resources, ensuring that all workers are allocated effectively, and maintaining high productivity standards while adhering to safety regulations and project timelines. The Labour Manager will oversee the hiring, training, and daily operations of the construction crew, ensuring that the workforce is performing at peak efficiency. #### **Key Responsibilities:** * **Workforce Management:** Supervise and direct the day-to-day activities of construction workers, subcontractors, and labor crews. Ensure that tasks are assigned appropriately based on skill set and project needs. * **Labor Scheduling:** Develop and implement labor schedules, ensuring there are enough workers on site at all times to meet project timelines and milestones. * **Resource Allocation:** Oversee the distribution of labor resources, ensuring that work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. Address any labor shortages or surpluses. * **Safety Compliance:** Ensure all workers adhere to safety standards and protocols. Conduct regular safety training sessions and inspections to minimize risks and accidents. * **Workforce Development:** Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to less experienced workers, ensuring that skills are developed and safety procedures are followed. * **Performance Monitoring:** Monitor and evaluate the performance of construction crews, addressing any performance issues, disciplinary actions, or conflicts. Provide feedback and support to improve efficiency and morale. * **Collaboration with Supervisors:** Work closely with site supervisors, project managers, and foremen to ensure proper manpower planning and that labor resources are being utilized effectively across the project. * **Quality Assurance:** Ensure that the work completed by labor crews meets required quality standards and is in compliance with project specifications. * **Recruitment:** Oversee the hiring of laborers for the project, ensuring that all workers meet the necessary skills and safety certifications. Collaborate with HR or external agencies for recruitment when necessary. * **Budget Oversight:** Assist in the management of labor costs, ensuring that work is completed within budget and time constraints. Track labor hours and review payroll reports. * **Conflict Resolution:** Handle any on-site conflicts or labor disputes quickly and effectively, ensuring smooth team dynamics and project continuity. * **Documentation and Reporting:** Maintain accurate records of labor allocation, hours worked, safety reports, and any issues that arise during the construction process. Prepare regular reports for project managers or senior leadership. * **Equipment Management:** Coordinate with equipment managers to ensure that labor crews have the necessary tools and machinery to complete tasks safely and efficiently. #### **Requirements:** * **Education:** High school diploma or equivalent. A degree or certification in construction management, labor relations, or a related field is a plus. * **Experience:** Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. * **Skills:** * Strong knowledge of construction processes, labor laws, and safety regulations. * Proven experience managing a large workforce and maintaining high productivity standards. * Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills. * Ability to resolve conflicts and handle personnel issues effectively. * Strong organizational and time-management abilities. * Ability to read blueprints, project plans, and labor schedules. * **Certifications:** OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent safety training is preferred. * **Physical Requirements:** Ability to work in a construction environment, including standing, walking, and occasional lifting. Ability to travel between job sites as needed. #### **Preferred Qualifications:** * **Experience with Unionized Workforces:** Experience managing union labor or understanding of union contracts and work rules. * **Project Management Software:** Familiarity with construction management software like Procore, Buildertrend, or MS Project. * **Bilingual:** Ability to communicate in multiple languages (e.g., Spanish, French) is a plus, especially in diverse work environments. * **Technical Skills:** Knowledge of construction tools, machinery, and labor-intensive tasks.
