Job Description: Chemical Technologist / Chemical Engineer

Reporting To: Project Head

Role Objective

To lead the design, engineering, setup, commissioning, and operation of a manufacturing unit for Tocopherol, Distilled Fatty Acids, and Phosphatidylcholine derived from edible oil refinery by-products (lecithin, soybean fatty acid oil, deodorizer distillates, etc.), ensuring technical excellence, cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and global market competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities1. Process & Project Development

• Prepare detailed feasibility studies and techno-commercial reports.
• Develop process flow diagrams (PFD), P&IDs, mass & energy balances.
• Evaluate and implement technologies such as molecular (short path) distillation, solvent extraction, Chormatogrpahic purification and membrane separation.
• Plan utilities (boilers, chilling units, vacuum systems, compressed air, effluent treatment).

2. Plant Design, Engineering & Commissioning

• Lead basic and detailed engineering for process equipment (distillation units, reactors, centrifuges, storage).
• Supervise civil, structural, electrical, piping, and instrumentation works.
• Oversee erection, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Optimize process parameters for maximum yield and purity.

3. Operations & Quality Assurance

• Establish SOPs for plant operations and preventive maintenance.
• Monitor production of high-purity tocopherol (Vitamin E), distilled fatty acids, and phosphatidylcholine.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance using HPLC, GC-MS, FTIR, etc.
• Maintain GMP, FSSAI, FDA, REACH, Kosher/Halal certifications.

4. Raw Material & Market Development

• Develop sourcing tie-ups with edible oil refineries for by-product supply.
• Track and analyze global/domestic markets for export competitiveness.
• Liaise with customers, traders, and export agencies for nutraceuticals and specialty chemicals.

5. Licensing & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to environmental and safety standards (Pollution Control Board, Hazardous Waste Rules).
• Conduct HAZOP and risk assessments.
• Secure statutory licenses for plant and product certifications.

Candidate Profile

• Education: B.Tech / M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or allied fields.
• Experience:
• Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in production of Tocopherol, Distilled Fatty Acids, and/or Phosphatidylcholine in a manufacturing unit (mandatory).
• Total 8–15 years’ experience in process industries (oleochemicals, nutraceuticals, edible oil derivatives, or specialty chemicals).
• Technical Competencies:
• Strong expertise in distillation (short path, thin film, vacuum), solvent extraction, purification, and related separation technologies.
• Knowledge of edible oil refinery by-products and their valorization.
• Practical use of process design software (Aspen Plus, Hysys, ChemCAD).
• Behavioral Competencies:
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams during commissioning and operations.
• Vendor management and negotiation skills.

• Salary: No bar for the right candidate (negotiable based on experience and expertise).
