About the Role
The barista prepares and serves high-quality coffee, tea, and specialty beverages while delivering friendly, efficient customer service in a clean, safe, and well-organized café environment. The role requires consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive during rush periods.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and serve espresso-based and brewed beverages to recipe standards (e.g., espresso, cappuccino, latte, cold brew, pour-over, teas, specialty/seasonal drinks).
• Greet guests, explain the menu, answer ingredient/allergen questions, and make recommendations.
• Take orders accurately at POS, process payments (cash/cards), and manage order flow.
• Steam and texture milk to specification; calibrate grinders and dial-in espresso shots.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of bar, equipment, utensils, seating, and condiment areas; follow food safety and hygiene SOPs.
• Restock supplies (beans, milk/alternatives, syrups, cups/lids, pastries); rotate stock (FIFO) and track low items.
• Perform opening/closing duties, including equipment startup/shutdown and end-of-day cleaning.
• Monitor equipment performance; report maintenance needs and follow cleaning schedules for grinders and espresso machines.
• Support pastry/food handling (warming, plating) per guidelines.
• Manage customer feedback and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
• Uphold brand standards for quality, speed, hospitality, and café appearance.
Required Qualifications
• Prior experience as a barista or in a fast-paced customer service role preferred.
• Working knowledge of espresso extraction, milk texturing, and common brew methods, or willingness to learn.
• Solid cash handling and basic math skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods; lift up to 25 lbs; work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Specialty coffee knowledge (espresso theory, brewing ratios, grinder calibration).
• Familiarity with alternative milks and basic latte art.
• Food safety certification (e.g., local authority certification) or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Experience with POS systems and high-volume café operations.
