Job Purpose
To support its growth, John Cockerill Energy Solutions, headquartered in Belgium, is opening an office in Mumbai and is hiring
a Piping Design-Checker
role.The Piping Designer is an employee responsible of power piping networks design of the products of the Energy Solutions Business line of John Cockerill, mainly HRSG’s (Heat Recovery Steam Generators) and Industrial Boilers... He/She is in charge of the spooling of piping networks in the CAD software integrating the different equipments in the 3D model and paying particular attention to interfaces. He/She assures the delivery on time of piping spools isometric drawings according to the milestones defined by the Project Teams. He/She is particularly responsible to deliver his/her work in conformity with internal quality standards as defined in the QMS (quality management system) of the Energy Solutions Business line of John Cockerill.
Responsibilities
The Piping Designer is responsible for the delivery of the piping isometric drawings and special items detailed manufacturing drawings under the hierarchical responsibility of the Piping Design Manager and the functional responsibility of the Technical Project Manager with the following objectives:
- Respect of the Design Process as defined in the QMS of the business line,
- Technical conformity of drawings to internal standards and contractual requirements,
- Supply of a fast and reliable service to the project teams to respect the document and equipment contractual delivery schedules of projects.
- Interact and coordinate with the Piping Designers to maintain the project time lines
Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Piping Designer are amongst others:
- Application of the Design Process,
- Check the completeness of the inputs received from the Technical Project Manager and basic engineering department
- Cross-check 2D drawings against 3D models.
- Check constructability and maintainability in plant design.
- Verify 2D drawings with respect to Pipe stress analysis report
- Spotting dimensional errors, missing information, or clashes.
- Ensuring consistency across drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and specifications within the team.
- Identifying design discrepancies early to avoid costly rework.
- Suggesting corrective actions to designers and engineers, develop templates for future use.
- Preparing checking reports, redlining drawings, and maintaining revision records.
- Issue the manufacturing documentation (mainly isometric drawings) in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements,
- Provide the engineers with information needed for the project progress and timelines for the deliverables
- Check the drawings to ensure mechanical interfaces between the different equipment,
- Keep his competencies of the team updated by regular feedback and training sessions
- Record, maintain and analyse the drawing and documentation Quality and quantity KPIs.
- Be proactive in the continuous improvement and REX (return on experience) processes.
- Explaining corrections clearly and constructively.
- Handling multiple drawings under tight project deadlines.
- Attend regular team meetings
Education & Experience
- 10 years relevant experience in Piping Designer position.
- Plus…. 3-5 years experience in Checker role
- Diploma or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering OR ITI with higher years of experience in Piping detailing and Checker role

- Good knowledge of usual codes / norms and good practice rules (ASME and EN)
- Mechanical drawings (cutting, machining, welding, assembly…)
- Knowledge of mechanical properties of steel elements (ASME and EN)
- Reading of technical documentation
- Proficient in English, particularly in reading and writing
- Ability to verify compliance with safety and quality requirements.
- Understanding of isometrics, GA (General Arrangement) drawings, and 3D piping models, PIDs, PFDs
- Familiarity with pipe supports, stress considerations, and material specifications.
- Ability to cross-check 2D drawings against 3D models.
- Mechanical engineering basics (fluid flow, pressure, stress).
- Awareness of constructability and maintainability in plant design.

- Aftersales services, technical assistance, inspections from the rehabilitation to the modernization of all types and brands of boilers;

- Thermal solar receivers (Concentrated Solar Power), that capture the sun’s rays, reflected by mirrors on the ground, and enable to produce energy 24/7 thanks to molten salts;
