Job Description

  • The Assistant PYP Coordinator supports the PYP Coordinator in the effective implementation of the IB Primary Years Programme across the school.
  • This role is designed to assist with the coordination, documentation, and communication of the PYP curriculum while promoting the philosophy and standards of the IB and the mission and vision of the school.
  • The Assistant PYPC works closely with the PYP Coordinator, teachers, and other members of staff to ensure collaborative planning, effective teaching practices, and smooth day-to-day functioning of the programme.
  • The role requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to professional growth and the development of inquiry-based, student-centered learning. This is a full-time position, which may occasionally require flexible working hours to accommodate meetings, workshops, or school events. The role may include a part-time teaching responsibility.
  • Preferred Academic Qualification
  • Bachelor s degree from a recognized university (master s degree in education preferred).
  • Recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed./M.Ed. or equivalent), preferably in K 8/Elementary Education.
  • Additional qualifications in international education (PGDIE or equivalent) would be an advantage.
  • Preferred Professional Experience
  • Minimum three years of teaching experience, preferably in an IB PYP, international, or multi-cultural context.
  • Experience with inquiry-based teaching and learning.
  • Prior involvement in curriculum planning and collaborative teaching teams.
  • Some exposure to IB PYP leadership or coordination (e.g., grade level leader, subject leader, or curriculum committee member) is desirable.

  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written (knowledge of Tamil or Hindi would be an advantage).

  • Technologically proficient with ability to use IT tools for teaching, planning, and documentation.
  • Willingness to learn and grow into greater leadership responsibility.

  • Responsibilities General:
  • Assist the PYP Coordinator in maintaining and updating PYP curriculum documentation, including planners, records, and policy documents.
  • Support the organization of PYP-related meetings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Help in developing systems for documentation, communication, and programme continuity.
  • Assist in preparing materials, resources, and presentations related to the PYP. With the IBO:
  • Support the PYP Coordinator in managing correspondence and documentation with the IB.
  • Assist in preparing for IB authorisation and evaluation visits.
  • Help maintain up-to-date records of IB publications and share relevant information with staff.
  • With Students:
  • Support student learning by encouraging inquiry-based approaches and the learner profile attributes.
  • Assist in organizing student-led conferences, portfolios, and the PYP Exhibition.
  • Help in developing transition activities for Grade 5 students moving into middle school.
  • With Teachers:
  • Assist in coordinating collaborative planning meetings and provide support in using PYP planners.
  • Support teachers in accessing and using PYP documents and resources.
  • Help new teachers with PYP orientation under the guidance of the coordinator.
  • Assist with the organization of in-school professional development sessions.
  • Provide guidance in integrating transdisciplinary skills, learner profile, and international mindedness into units of inquiry.
  • With Parents:
  • Support the PYP Coordinator in planning and facilitating parent orientation sessions.
  • Assist in preparing communication materials to keep parents informed about the PYP.
  • Support parent understanding of assessment, reporting, and student progress.
  • With School Administration:
  • Assist in preparing reports and updates on PYP implementation for the Academic Leadership Team.
  • Support budget preparation by identifying resource needs and providing input to the PYP Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with other coordinators (MYP, DP, or Cambridge) to promote curriculum continuity.
  • Carry out responsibilities delegated by the PYP Coordinator or school leadership.
