Summary: As an AI Agent Developer at Vertex, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and operationalizing intelligent agents that automate complex workflows and enable dynamic decision-making across enterprise systems. This role sits at the intersection of AI engineering, system design, and data-driven automation, requiring deep technical expertise and a passion for transforming business processes through intelligent automation. You will collaborate across data, IT, and business teams to develop custom logic, integrations, and orchestration frameworks that empower agents to interact with enterprise data, applications, and APIs — driving measurable productivity and innovation across Vertex’s operational landscape. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Agent Design & Development: Architect and build AI agents capable of multi-step reasoning, decision-making, and dynamic task execution across enterprise systems. • Custom Logic Implementation: Develop agent logic using Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or other languages to support advanced workflows beyond low-code configurations. • Enterprise Integration: Connect agents with CRM, ERP, data platforms, and third-party APIs to enable seamless cross-system interactions. • Context & Memory Management: Implement memory, context handling, and chaining logic to support long-running, stateful agent operations. • Data Intelligence Enablement: Design and optimize data flows, embeddings, and retrieval mechanisms (e.g., vector databases, knowledge graphs) to enhance agent adaptability. • Collaboration: Work with AI architects and data engineers to integrate structured and unstructured data into agent reasoning frameworks. • Governed Orchestration: Develop and deploy scalable agent orchestration frameworks with built-in security, observability, and compliance. • Performance Monitoring: Evaluate agent performance, implement telemetry, and refine logic based on feedback and metrics. • Responsible AI Practices: Apply ethical, secure, and transparent design principles to ensure agents operate responsibly. • Reusable Patterns: Prototype and scale reusable agent patterns to accelerate enterprise-wide AI adoption. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • 5+ years of proven experience in AI/ML engineering, intelligent systems, or automation. • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages. • Experience with agentic systems and orchestrated AI solutions integrating models, APIs, and data. • Hands-on expertise with cloud AI services (Azure, AWS, GCP) and their integration capabilities. • Experience with Generative AI and LLM frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Semantic Kernel, Agentforce). • Ability to design custom logic layers including decision trees, task routing, and feedback loops. • Experience with enterprise API design, event-driven systems, or message-based orchestration (e.g., Kafka). • Understanding of data governance, security, and Responsible AI standards. • Bonus: Experience with agent frameworks (e.g., CrewAI, AutoGen), knowledge graphs, RAG architectures, and MLOps/AgentOps practices. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field. • 5+ years of experience in AI/ML development, intelligent automation, or related domains. • Experience with CRM and ERP systems (e.g., Salesforce, Workday) preferred. • Demonstrated ability to lead technical workshops and translate business needs into agent use cases.
