The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and development of tunnelling projects, ensuring the integrity, safety, and functionality of underground structures. Responsibilities
- Technically lead the TBM tunnel design delivery in single or multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications
- Develop detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for tunnel alignments, cross-sections, support systems, and lining structures/segments.
- Keep up to date with industry developments, engineering innovations and best practices with respect to own discipline and other disciplines on a global scale
- Support the technical capabilities of the discipline and the company wide business and maintain contact with key technical leaders across Jacobs offices and around the world
- Contribute to and lead design reviews in alignment with the Jacobs Management system
- Review and approve drawings and reports of tunnel design, geotechnical design as well as specifications, and other design documents
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, geotechnical, civil engineers and geologists to integrate geotechnical solutions.
- Manage geotechnical risks and propose mitigation strategies
- Engage with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to provide expert recommendations
- Drive innovation and utilize technological advancement
- Experience in geotechnical fieldwork, laboratory testing, and data interpretation.
- Author and co-author technical papers for conferences
- Knowledge of Ground Investigation (GI) techniques and design parameter derivation
- Conduct field visits and site inspections to monitor construction progress, assess site conditions, and address any design-related issues or modifications.
- Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with Jacobs policies
Here's what you'll need
- BEng/BTech in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or an equivalent degree, with a minimum of 12 years of post-graduate experience in Tunnel Design. Master's degree in TBM/tunnel//rock engineering preferred.
- Regional Experience Preferred experience working on projects in the Middle East, particularly in the UAE and KSA, either in-country or from a remote design office
- Client Engagement Strong client-facing skills and experience.
- Overseas Travel No restrictions on traveling overseas (e.g., UAE and KSA) for client meetings and workshops.
- Domestic Travel No restrictions for domestic travel for site visits and client meetings as per the company/project requirements.
- Strong understanding in tunnel engineering principles, including geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, and ground improvement techniques.
- Proficiency in structural engineering concepts and analysis, with experience in designing tunnel support systems, linings, and underground structures.
- Solid understanding of engineering software such as RocScience Suite, PLAXIS/MIDAS, FLAC/UDEC, SAP2000, or similar tools for geotechnical and structural analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges in tunnelling projects.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Professional Membership Membership in a relevant professional body is required and chartered Engineer status is preferred.
