Qualifications & Training: Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (COC) – Class I
Age: Between 30 – 35 years
Experience:
Seagoing: At Least 1-year experience as a Chief Engineer on seagoing Chemical Tankers or Oil Tankers is a must.
Ashore:At least 02-05 years shore experience as a Technical Superintendent handling Chemical Tankers or Oil Tankers
Responsibilities/Accountabilities :
1. Technical Management & Vessel Performance · Oversee and ensure the smooth technical operation of assigned vessels. · Monitor vessel performance and ensure compliance with company and industry technical standards. · Implement best practices to optimize fuel efficiency, machinery performance, and overall operational effectiveness.
2. Certification & Regulatory Compliance · Ensure all vessel certifications (class, statutory, and other required surveys) are well-maintained and renewed before expiration. · Plan and manage inspections in compliance with ISM code, and other applicable international regulations. · Liaise with classification societies, flag states, port authorities, and regulatory bodies for surveys, audits, and inspections.
3. Planned Maintenance & Repairs · Ensure effective implementation of the company’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS). · Monitor and manage day-to-day vessel maintenance and repair activities. Work closely with vessel crew and engineers to address and rectify technical defects. · Conduct regular ship visits and onboard inspections to assess vessel conditions and generate technical reports.
4. Dry-Docking & Major Repairs · Plan, prepare, and execute dry-docking, including all class and regulatory requirements. · Coordinate with shipyards and contractors for repairs, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion. · Oversee major overhauls and ensure quality work is carried out in line with technical and safety standards. · Coordinate with Operations for ensuring timely and cost-effective completion of work.
5. Budgeting & Cost Control · Prepare, manage, and monitor the vessel’s technical budget. · Control expenses related to vessel maintenance and operations, ensuring cost efficiency without compromising quality and safety. · Track and manage spare parts, consumables, and procurement needs in coordination with the purchasing department and Operations.
6. Crew Management – Selection, Performance & Coordination: · Interview and select qualified engineers for vessels under management. · Monitor and support vessel crew in achieving technical and safety objectives. · Review crew performance and provide guidance, training, and support for improvement. · Foster teamwork and ensure effective communication between the office and ship staff.
7. Monitoring & Reporting · Conduct daily monitoring of vessel technical operations, performance, and maintenance schedules. · Review monthly technical reports and provide necessary feedback and recommendations to the vessel. · Prepare and submit vessel inspection reports, technical reports, and budget performance updates to the Fleet Manager.
8. Vendor & Supply Chain Coordination · Liaise with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of spare parts, equipment, and consumables. · Manage relationships with suppliers and service providers for efficient technical support. · Ensure defect rectifications are carried out promptly and effectively. · Carry out benchmarking of drydocks.
Knowledge Ø Strong knowledge of international shipping regulations, PMS, and technical management systems. Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
Skills Ø Ability to manage budgets, control costs, and optimize vessel performance efficiently.
Ø Proficiency in ship management software and Microsoft Office.
Attitude/Personal Qualities Ø Enthusiastic, self‐motivated and hardworking candidate.
Ø Should have Excellent teamwork, management skills and leadership qualities.
Other Requirements · Willingness to travel frequently for vessel inspections, technical support and drydocking.
