Job Description

This role is a very broad-based and includes various legal issues and compliance requirements that the organization faces on a regular basis. This role requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to handle all legal issues and litigations in a very efficient and cost effective manner. The person will work closely with various internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative manner. As a part of the Global Operations and Litigation Team, the candidate will be key in creating processes and practices to improve the day-to-day efficiency and effectiveness, facilitate change and control costs. In addition to expertise in civil and criminal litigations, the individual must possess strong interpersonal skills including the ability to handle conflict with a positive attitude.


  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics (civil and criminal laws including labour law, contracts, environment laws etc)
  • Collaborate with management to devise efficient defence strategies
  • Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.),
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s interest.
  • Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
  • Handle various notices, intimations and other communication and to draft response thereof in collaboration with business functions
  • Preparations of case for opinions, briefing external advocates on variety of matters.
  • Engaging external advocates and effectively managing the expenditure.
  • Coordination and briefing / discussion with the lawyers for litigation matters.
  • Coordinate and make arrangements required for legal proceedings and provide the required documents/information/input to external advocate engaged for proceedings in litigation matters.
  • Preparing and updating Legal MIS for litigation matters through regular follow ups with external advocates.
  • Collaborating with business team, gathering relevant documents/information, providing solution for amicable resolution of disputes and in the absence proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders for initiating appropriate legal proceedings to safeguard company’s interest.
  • Attend the meetings /conferences as and when required /directed by superiors.
  • Draft, review and solidify pleadings, petitions, affidavits and other litigation documents,
  • Attend litigation matters at various courts and tribunals
  • Handle court matters at varying levels of complexities with a high degree of collaboration with all the stakeholders involved
  • Develop and implement internal process guidelines, templates, and workflows
  • decision-making, including matter and work product analyses
  • Develop and enforce processes and policies to manage outside counsel usage and spend
  • Develop reports and processes to monitor processes, and spend throughout the legal
  • Provide technical and training support for new legal department hires
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams as well as various business units

External

  • Creating and maintaining good network and relations with external counsels.
  • Maintaining relations with consultants and members of legal fraternity.


Internal (other than Direct Reports)

  • Maintaining good relations with various internal stakeholders
  • Advising the stakeholders on various risks from legal and regulatory perspective and providing the solutions to navigate from difficult situations
  • Ability to adopt and demonstrate business partnering with stakeholders
  • Good team player with an eye for detail
  • Proactive and positive approach in dealing with stakeholders


Educational Qualifications :


Experience

  • 12-15 years of work experience in a large organization preferably with pharmaceutical industry


Knowledge and Skills (

  • Prior experience managing in-house litigation role and labour legislations
  • Demonstrated ability to independently move projects forward by gaining the support needed from others while working in a cross-functional role
  • Proven track record of collaborating with groups (e.g., HR, EHS, finance, operations, sales, IT) to set objectives and produce meaningful results
  • Expertise in negotiation and finalization of complex contracts including procurement contracts for capital goods and raw materials.
  • Proficient in business applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, document management systems, and legal enterprise software
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple deadlines
