Introduction to Muskaan-PAEPID

Muskaan-PAEPID was started in 1982 by parents and professionals. Muskaan is well known for its pioneering work in the field of providing training and work opportunities to adults with ID. Family support, assisted living, awareness and advocacy are other areas of work of the organization. After receiving training in various skills, our students work within Muskaan in distinct units like stationary, bakery etc. creating products, available for the outside world to buy. Students have also been able to secure employment outside Muskaan with partner organizations in various industries

 

Job Summary:

Muskaan-PAEPID is looking for a dedicated Special Educator to support and guide PwIDDs (Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities). The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing individualized life skill educational plans, providing a supportive and nurturing environment, and working closely with our trainees to enhance their learning and independence. The role requires strong communication skills, patience, team building, critical thinking and leadership skills. The Special Educator will collaborate with families, therapists, and other staff to ensure the overall development and well-being of each individual, promoting Muskaan's vision of empowering individuals to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To conduct trainings to develop vocational skills of students to prepare them to be ready for the work units.
  • To conduct personality development programs for the students so that they are able to present themselves in front of others.
  • To assess students’ strength on regular basis and build capacities by placing them in the right vocations to achieve better productivity.
  • To assist in designing and planning students’ program to meet up with the development objectives of the students.
  • To develop relationship with parents and regularly communicate with them on the development of their wards.
  • To supervise and monitor production at the work units in respect to the overall plan and ensure targets are achieved on time with total involvement of the students.
  • To organise raw material purchases and ensure they meet up with both quantity and quality standards.
  • To assist to develop creative and innovative products / process and propose ways to market them.
  • To conduct regular trainings for unit assistants / helpers/ associates so as to keep them updated with new products/ process / systems and skills.
  • To ensure reports and records are timely updated on the students’ progress and production status.
  • To ensure fulfilment of the targets meet both time and quality standards as per the customer needs.

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • To engage in the admission process by preparing assessments and reports of new learners.
  • To deal with matters related to students’ transportation/Arrival/Departure.
  • To engage in the activities assigned to you from time to time.

Skills:

  • Good communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written, tailored to the needs of the residents.
  • Ability to design and implement personalized life skill educational and training programs.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in assessing and tracking the progress of individuals
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Organizational skills for record-keeping, reporting and planning.

 

Knowledge:

  • Intellectual disabilities and developmental challenges.
  • Special education techniques and individualized education plans.
  • Awareness of assisted living care practices, health, safety and hygiene.
