The Network Region Build (NRB) team is responsible for deploying greenfield infrastructure, establishing network connectivity for new (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) OCI regions, and enabling compute connectivity for child sites. This includes building and managing data center fabrics, edge networks, backbone, fiber metro networks, and supporting multi-cloud initiatives.NRB provides 24x7 operational support during build phases and oversees network and server rack adds, decommissions, and capacity expansions. The team also drives automation, process improvements, and tool development in-house and with collaboration with Network Automation to enhance efficiency.This role involves designing, deploying, and operating large-scale global cloud networks. It requires a deep understanding of network protocols and programming skills to support automation at scale. As OCI's cloud network spans a global footprint, this role supports a vast infrastructure of network devices and millions of connected servers across dedicated backbone and internet-based connectivity.This leader will have experience with direct leadership, ability to formulate strategy, assist in validating and improving engineering functions, delivery of services and process improvement. With the rapid growth of our organization, the leader should be comfortable operating in large, complex teams with the skills for driving details, but also up-level communication for senior executives.
Responsibilities
Operate as a leader within Networking; hire, develop people, manage performance, drive teams to produce needed guidance to feed our short- and long- term group needsSupports the deployment, scaling, and operations of a large-scale global Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Primarily focused on the development and support of network fabric and systems through a combination of a deep understanding of protocol-level networking and programming skills. As OCI is a cloud-based network with a global footprint, this support will include hundreds of thousands of network devices supporting millions of servers, connected over a mix of dedicated backbone infrastructure, CLOS Network, and the Internet.Responsibilities:
- Own and develop highly available delivery plans !
- Lead deployment, scaling and automation of programs across the physical network !
- Attract, develop & manage a team of highly skilled engineers.
- Define and develop roadmaps to deliver engineering and operational efficiencies.
- Develop, grow, and maintain data-driven metric programs that speak to both the operational and business status of the services owned within the physical networking domain.
- Solve difficult problems in distributed systems, infrastructure, and highly available services.
- Collaborate with Program Management, Acquisition, DataCenter (Design, Build and Operations teams), Network Engineering, Network Availability, Network Automation, Network Monitoring, and GNOC operations.
- Support building and scaling organizations to deliver a highly available service to our customers.
- Participate in on-call rotation for managers.
- Manage both technical and non-technical projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of process development, network technologies, including network design and fabrics, networking protocols, network automation, network telemetry and common hardware platforms.
- Participate in on call rotation for incident management.
- Direct knowledge of cloud infrastructure and management.
- Line management experience (direct reports); demonstrated ability to lead organization planning, hiring, performance management.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams, dive deep, and communicate key metrics to senior management in a timely manner.
- Record of meeting deadlines while managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Critical attention to detail.
- Manage both technical and non-technical projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available network environments (large cloud, ISP, or service provider)
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field
- Experience in data center and/or service provider network environments, with a focus on operations
- Understanding of networking technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience
- Experience managing software development project a plus (but not required)
