Job Description

About the Role

Senior Hardware Engineer

unshakable fundamentals in mixed-signal design, PCB layout, and power management

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle PCB Design:

Lead the design process from component selection and schematic capture to multi-layer PCB layout (4+ layers). Focus on mixed-signal designs (analog sensors + digital processing).
  • Sensor & Systems Integration:

Interface complex sensors (IMUs, Pressure Transducers, Sonar front-ends) with microcontrollers/processors using protocols like RS485, RS232, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
  • Reverse Engineering & Legacy Support:

Analyze existing proprietary or legacy hardware to create accurate schematics and design improved, compatible replacements.
  • Power Electronics:

Design efficient DC-DC power conversion stages and Battery Management Systems (BMS) for battery-operated constrained environments.
  • EMI/EMC & Signal Integrity:

Own the "noise" problem. Design for EMC compliance from day one (proper grounding, shielding, trace impedance control) and troubleshoot EMI issues in the lab.
  • DFM & Production:

Translate functional prototypes into manufacturing-ready designs. Generate BOMs, pick-and-place files, and handle communication with PCB fabrication houses.
  • Advanced Debugging:

Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers to debug deep-level hardware/firmware interaction issues.

Technical Requirements (Core Domain Expertise)

1. Schematic & Layout

  • 5+ years of experience in EDA tools (Altium Designer, KiCad, or OrCAD).
  • Deep experience with High-Speed Digital design (impedance control, differential pairs) and Sensitive Analog routing (noise isolation, star grounding).
  • Experience designing for space-constrained enclosures.

2. Embedded Hardware

  • Proficiency with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and embedded Linux SOMs (System on Modules).
  • Strong understanding of peripheral drivers and hardware abstraction.

3. Power & Protection

  • Experience designing switching regulators (Buck/Boost), LDOs, and load switches.
  • Knowledge of protection circuitry: TVS diodes, optocouplers, and galvanic isolation techniques (crucial for underwater/industrial systems).

4. Testing & Validation

  • Ability to read datasheets and functional requirements to create rigorous hardware test plans.
  • Hands-on experience identifying Board Level issues (soldering, rework, and component replacement).
