Senior Engineering Manager

Overview

The Stacks team is dedicated to

standardizing and improving the backend technology stacks

at Atlassian, with a focus on Java, Node.js, Python, and Golang. Our mission is to provide a robust, secure, and developer-friendly platform that enables teams to build high-quality apps at scale. We are the center of excellence for engineering standards. What We Do

• Deliver and maintain Golden Images for all supported tech stacks, ensuring secure and reliable base images for app development.
• Define and enforce standards for Java and Node.js stacks, collaborating with working groups to formalize best practices.
• Build and support platform frameworks, libraries and tools tailored for Atlassian
• Drive adoption of secure, compliant, and efficient development workflows, including FedRAMP-compliant solutions and CIS controls.
• Continuously improve the developer experience for microservice developers

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, and grow a team of high-performing engineers, including technical leaders.
• Guide the technical roadmap for scaling and evolving services, working with leaders across the organization and Principal Engineers/Architects.
• Accountable for reliability, security, performance, and scale of all the services you own.
• Drive adoption of your team’s services across the company.
• Drive cultural change through technical excellence, quality, and efficiency.
• Support teams in delivering large projects with complex dependencies and multiple
  

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Proven track record of delivering projects on time, in scope, and within quality goals in an Agile environment.
• 5+ years managing and growing engineering teams
• Experience providing feedback and coaching to engineers and technical leaders.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience building SaaS software with a focus on operational excellence and reliability.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with scalable, high-performance, highly available systems.
• Strong understanding of using metrics to guide technical and business decisions.
• Familiarity with security, privacy, or compliance systems is a plus
• Experience structuring and coaching teams for success and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to build trusted advisor relationships with senior business and technical leaders.
