Job Description – Safety Officer

Position: Safety Officer
Department: EHS (Environment, Health & Safety)
Location: Site / Project Location (Pune and Dharwad, Karnataka)
Reports To: Project Manager

1. Job Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, implementing safety programs, and promoting a safe working environment at project sites. This role involves conducting inspections, training workers, identifying hazards, and enforcing company safety standards to prevent accidents and incidents.

2. Key Roles & Responsibilities A. Safety Compliance & Monitoring

• Ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations (Factories Act, BOCW Act, OSHA guidelines, etc.).
• Conduct daily site inspections and identify unsafe acts/conditions.
• Ensure proper use of PPE by all workers, staff, and contractors.
• Monitor high-risk activities such as working at height, excavation, lifting operations, scaffolding, hot work, etc.

B. Incident Management

• Report, record, and investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe incidents.
• Prepare root-cause analysis reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain incident registers and ensure timely escalation.

C. Training & Awareness

• Conduct safety induction for new workers and staff.
• Deliver toolbox talks (TBT) daily/weekly.
• Organise safety awareness programs, mock drills, fire training, and emergency response sessions.

D. Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports.
• Maintain safety checklists, permits, registers, and compliance documents.
• Ensure all work permits (hot work, height work, lifting, confined space) are correctly issued and followed.

E. Site Safety Implementation

• Ensure safety signage, barricading, and emergency equipment are in place.
• Monitor housekeeping standards and waste management.
• Conduct safety audits and support internal/external compliance audits.

F. Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with site engineers, subcontractors, and labour contractors on safety matters.
• Participate in project review meetings and present safety performance.
• Escalate repeated violations to management for necessary action.

3. Qualifications & Skills: Educational Qualification

• Diploma / Degree in Engineering (preferred)
• Mandatory: Govt.-approved Safety Certification –
• NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA / Diploma in Industrial Safety / Fire & Safety

Experience

• 2–5 years (for mid-level roles); 5+ years for senior level.
• Prior experience in construction, infrastructure, or landscape projects preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
