Job Description – Product Manager (Communication)
We are a leading Smart Energy Meter Manufacturing Company & AMISP with fully captive Design, Development, Validation, Manufacturing, Software Development (HES, MDMS, etc.), Managed Software Services, and Smart Meter Installation & Life-cycle Management capabilities. We seek a technically strong, hands-on Product Manager (Communication) with deep expertise in smart meter communications (RF Mesh, 4G, NB-IoT) to ensure seamless integration and performance between Smart Meters, NICs, HES, and MDMS.
Position Summary
The Product Manager (Communication) will be responsible for leading the product strategy, design, and performance optimization of communication technologies in smart energy metering solutions. This role demands strong technical depth, field experience, and leadership in resolving ground-level communication challenges across diverse environments.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for smart meter communication technologies (RF-Mesh, 4G, NB-IoT).
• Bridge technical requirements between Smart Meters, NICs, HES, MDMS, and field operations.
• Drive product roadmap, ensuring alignment with business strategy and regulatory standards (CEA, BIS, DISCOM specs).
• Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Validation, and Software teams to deliver robust communication solutions.
• Lead root cause analysis and resolution of communication failures in large-scale deployments.
• Work with AMI project teams to optimize network coverage, performance, and reliability.
• Ensure interoperability and certification compliance for communication modules.
• Track evolving communication standards, technologies, and competitive landscape.
• Provide technical leadership and training for cross-functional teams and field engineers.
• Engage with customers, DISCOMs, and system integrators to understand pain points and define solutions.
Accountabilities
• Ensure reliable communication performance across millions of deployed meters.
• Achieve interoperability between Smart Meters, NICs, HES, MDMS, and third-party systems.
• Timely release and validation of communication firmware and features.
• Customer satisfaction through reduced downtime and faster issue resolution.
• Cost optimization and scalability of communication solutions.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Communication success rate (>98% for RF Mesh, >97% for Cellular/NB-IoT).
• Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR) communication issues in field deployments.
• Interoperability certifications obtained (DLMS/COSEM, BIS, G3-PLC, etc.).
• On-time delivery of communication firmware and product enhancements.
• Customer complaint closure time (target: <7 days).
• Network optimization efficiency (coverage, latency, throughput).
• Cost reduction achieved in communication module procurement/integration.
Candidate Profile
• 5–10 years of experience in Smart Metering (Meter OEM, AMISP, System Integrator, or Software Provider).
• Strong expertise in Smart Meter communication technologies (RF Mesh, 4G LTE, NB-IoT).
• Hands-on field deployment and troubleshooting experience in large-scale AMI rollouts.
• Deep understanding of HES, MDMS, NICs, DLMS/COSEM protocol, and interoperability challenges.
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams and product lifecycles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
• Engineering degree in Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunications, or related field (Masters preferred).
