Role Overview / Purpose of the Role

The Manager Payroll and Compliance will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all statutory requirements. The role demands strong technical knowledge of payroll systems, statutory laws, and audit processes. This position works closely with the VP HR and cross-functional teams to maintain seamless payroll governance and statutory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete monthly payroll cycle including data validation, processing, verification, and disbursement.
  • Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory compliance such as PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, Gratuity, TDS, Bonus, and other applicable labour laws.
  • Ensure accurate filing of statutory returns, challans, and compliance reports within stipulated timelines.
  • Lead quarterly payroll and compliance audits; coordinate with internal and external auditors.
  • Maintain and update payroll records, statutory registers, and employee master data.
  • Manage payroll software operations including configuration, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Review and reconcile monthly payroll inputs such as attendance, leave, reimbursements, incentives, and statutory deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, HR guidelines, and statutory mandates.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Provide payroll MIS, variance reports, dashboards, and analytical insights for HR leadership.
  • Address employee queries related to payroll, taxation, and statutory benefits.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processing and statutory labour law compliances.
  • Strong command of PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, Bonus Act, Gratuity Act, Shops & Establishment Act, and tax compliance (TDS).
  • Experience with payroll software (SAP, HROne, ZingHR Spine, or similar payroll software).
  • Proficiency in Excel, payroll analytics, reconciliations, and MIS reporting.
  • Familiarity with audit processes and statutory filings.
