About the Role

The Merchandising Manager will oversee the complete lifecycle of export orders—from buyer communication and product development to production follow-ups and shipment. The role requires strong coordination with buyers, production, sampling, fabric, trims, and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Buyer Management

  • Handle direct communication with international buyers for product queries, costing, approvals, and order updates.
  • Understand buyer requirements, technical details, and quality expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong buyer relationships.

Product Development & Sampling

  • Coordinate design briefs, fabric selection, trims, and raw materials for sampling.
  • Ensure timely development of proto samples, fit samples, PP samples, and size sets.
  • Follow up with sampling teams to maintain timelines.

Costing & Order Confirmation

  • Prepare accurate costing sheets including fabric, trims, processing, CM, testing, and logistics.
  • Negotiate prices with buyers and get approval for confirmed orders.
  • Analyze margins and ensure profitability.

Production Follow-ups

  • Create and monitor time & action (T&A) calendars.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, fabric, cutting, and finishing departments for continuous updates.
  • Track raw material status (fabric/trim approvals, inward, shortages).
  • Ensure on-time order execution as per buyer delivery window.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all samples, fits, and bulk production meet buyer quality standards.
  • Facilitate buyer inspections and follow compliance requirements for export shipments.
  • Coordinate with QA for inline and final inspections.

Documentation & Shipment

  • Work closely with logistics and export documentation teams for packing lists, invoice creation, and shipping documents.
  • Ensure timely dispatch of shipments as per buyer schedule.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of garment manufacturing processes (knits/woven).
  • Excellent communication with international buyers.
  • Strong T&A planning and follow-up skills.
  • Costing and negotiation expertise.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, T&A trackers, and ERP systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, Textile, Apparel Merchandising, or related field.
  • 10-12 years of experience in export merchandising.
  • Experience in bulk export is mandatory.
