Mechanical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret conceptual design ideas and translate them into fabrication-ready technical drawings
• Create 2D/3D CAD drawings, exploded views, and detailed joinery schematics for production
• Value engineer each design: propose alternate materials, modular structures, and cost-effective joineries without compromising design or structural integrity
• Work closely with the factory team to ensure drawings are feasible, modular, and suited for easy shipping and reassembly
• Define and plan material usage, welding techniques, fasteners, and surface finishes
• Collaborate with the design team to ensure the final output maintains aesthetics and scale
• Coordinate with vendors to ensure alignment with design specs and material timelines
• Act as a project manager, tracking the progress of fabrication jobs, resolving issues on the floor, and ensuring timelines are met
• Oversee prototype development and perform quality checks for fit, finish, and structure
• Maintain an archive of technical drawings and BOMs for each project
• Contribute to establishing fabrication SOPs and reusable detail libraries

Ideal Background

• Degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Design Engineering
• 3+ years of experience in fabrication, metal/wood structures, or large-scale installation development
• Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, or other technical design software
• Strong understanding of materials (aluminum, MS, SS, acrylic, plywood), welding methods, bending/forming limitations, and structural stability
• Experience working with vendors, factory teams, and site supervisors
• Knowledge of modular construction, knock-down joineries, and load-bearing calculations is a plus
• Excellent communication and coordination skills; capable of managing multiple fast-moving projects
