Job Summary

The Maintenance and Energy Specialist is responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all plant equipment and utilities in a dairy processing facility. This role also focuses on identifying and implementing energy-saving initiatives to reduce operational costs while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations:

  • Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules for processing, packaging, refrigeration, and utility equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues across all plant systems including boilers, chillers, compressors, and HVAC.
  • Maintain and update equipment history records, logs, and downtime data.

Energy Management

  • Monitor energy consumption (electricity, steam, fuel, compressed air, refrigeration, and water) across the plant.
  • Conduct energy audits and identify opportunities for energy savings and optimization.
  • Implement and track energy conservation projects (motor efficiency, VFD installation, LED lighting, heat recovery systems, etc.).

Process Optimization

  • Support operations in improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and reducing maintenance-related downtime.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to enhance equipment performance and process efficiency.
  • Analyze utility performance KPIs and recommend improvement plans.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with GMP, food safety, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols for handling electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for annual maintenance and calibrations.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports for maintenance and energy usage.
  • Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for maintenance tracking and planning.
  • Prepare reports for statutory compliance (boiler inspection, energy audit, etc.).

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of dairy machinery (pasteurizers, homogenizers, separators, UHT systems).
  • Hands-on experience with utility systems (boiler, ammonia refrigeration, air compressors, water treatment).
  • Expertise in electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of energy management systems and tools (BEE norms, ISO 50001 preferred).
  • Familiarity with automation and PLC/SCADA-based systems is an added advantage.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation / Industrial Engineering.
  • 3–7 years of relevant experience in dairy or food processing industries.
  • Certification in Energy Management (BEE Certified Energy Manager preferred) is a plus.
