Job Purpose:

To lead the design, planning, and execution support of CBM (Coalbed Methane) wells, ensuring technical integrity, cost-efficiency, and regulatory & HSE compliance. This role drives well delivery from concept to execution readiness, integrating subsurface understanding with drilling and completion technologies tailored for CBM fields.

Key Responsibilities:

Well Planning & Design:

  • Lead well planning activities for CBM wells (vertical, deviated, multilateral, or cluster), including location selection support.
  • Prepare well designs (casing, cementing, well trajectory, mud program) aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
  • Develop detailed Basis of Design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans.
  • Design fit-for-purpose and cost-optimized completions for CBM production (e.g., cavitation, open-hole, or fracked completions).

Engineering & Cost Control:

  • Generate drilling and completion AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) and monitor actual vs budget.
  • Assist in developing various Scope of Work and technical specifications for Drilling & Well Completion equipment for tender packages to be in line with the engineering standards and meeting the operational requirement.
  • Select equipment and materials in collaboration with procurement and service vendors.
  • Evaluate and apply new CBM-relevant technologies (e.g., slim-hole, underbalanced drilling, horizontal CBM).
  • Evaluate and monitor the contractor's performance to ensure the improvement of their service and ensure compliance with safety, contractual, procedural and regulatory requirements

  • Hands-on exposure to CBM-specific challenges such as coal stability, dewatering strategies, and completions.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in well design software (Landmark, WellPlan, Compass, StressCheck, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behaviour and gas production mechanisms.
  • Budgeting and AFE preparation.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
