The Role
As a Lead Engineer you will be responsible for timely and quality completion of projects specifically in the Automotive BIW domain. You will refine design concepts into practical, manufacturable designs that meet performance, durability, and cost targets.This position reports to the Design Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanism Design: Design of automated fixtures, tooling’s and Material handling system for Automotive BIW. Deep knowledge of Spot welding and Mig welding systems & applications.
- Communication: Effectively communicate project status, issues, risks, scope management items, and forecasts.
- Engineering Calculations: Perform engineering calculations to analyse equipment parameters such as force, movement, energy, and timings, robot payloads, cycle times
- Mechanical Designs: Develop and execute complex mechanical designs for complex auto-welding systems, Material handling, robotic end of arm tooling’s
- Standards Exposure: Have exposure to North American Standards, GMD1 Standards
- Mechanical Systems: Design mechanical systems such as fixtures integrated with pneumatics, mechanical drive systems, kinematic principles, sensors, motors, and vacuum applications.
- Collaboration: Work in an industry automation environment in collaboration with process, electrical engineering, and control system engineering teams.
- Material Handling Systems: Design material handling systems and robotic integrated systems like conveyors, chutes, AGV/AMR, end of arm tooling, and complex grippers.
- Cross-Functional Knowledge: Knowledge in machine assembly, testing, and troubleshooting in automation.
- APQP & PFMEA: Exposure to APQP & PFMEA environments.
- Manufacturing Collaboration: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize production processes.
- Compliance: Ensure all mechanical systems designed comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements
Essential
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: BE or B. Tech in Mechanical/ Production Engineering
- Industry Experience: Minimum 8+ years in mechanical design, specifically in automation machinery for the food industry, packaging and life sciences verticals.
- Key Skills: BIW Welding systems, robotic systems & manufacturing. Should have good strong concept designs
- Software: NX Must, working knowledge in SolidWorks.
- Standards Exposure: Have exposure to North American Automotive standards, GM Standards
Desirable
- VISA: Candidates holding valid visas for the location (USA) are highly recommended.
- Software: Inventor is a great advantage.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
