Job Title: Inventory Manager – Optical Lens Wholesale Warehouse

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Department: Warehouse & Supply Chain

Employment Type: Full-time

Reporting To: Warehouse Head / Operations Manager

Workplace: 4-floor central warehouse

Job Summary

The Inventory Manager will oversee the complete stock lifecycle of optical lenses (single vision, bifocal, progressive, coated, high-index, etc.) across a 4-floor warehouse. The role includes ensuring accurate stock levels, maintaining proper storage conditions, preventing stock mix-ups, coordinating inward/outward movement, implementing inventory control systems, and ensuring efficient order fulfillment for B2B clients, retailers, and distributors.

This position requires someone with strong organizational skills, excellent accuracy, experience with optical/medical inventory (preferred), and the ability to manage warehouse staff across multiple floors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Maintain real-time stock levels for all lens SKUs (power ranges, coatings, diameters, materials).
  • Oversee daily cycle counts, weekly spot checks, and monthly physical audits.
  • Implement and maintain FIFO/FEFO systems to prevent aging of coated or specialty lenses.
  • Ensure zero mismatch between software stock and physical stock.

2. Warehouse Operations Management

  • Supervise lens storage across four floors, ensuring efficient layout by SKU type, power range, and order frequency.
  • Coordinate with packing staff for picking, packing, and dispatching orders with high speed and accuracy.
  • Monitor inward goods: verification against purchase orders, quality check of lenses, and updating inventory software.
  • Organize returns and defective item processing.

3. Team Management

  • Manage a team of floor supervisors, pickers, packers, and loaders.
  • Train team members on handling delicate optical lenses.
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure all warehouse processes run smoothly.

4. Vendor & Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate with suppliers for incoming stock scheduling.
  • Interact with transport/logistics partners for timely outward shipments.
  • Build communication with sales teams to anticipate stock requirements.

5. System & Documentation

  • Use warehouse/inventory software (Tally, Zoho Inventory, SAP, or any in-house system).
  • Maintain all records of stock movements, adjustments, GRNs, and dispatch documentation.
  • Prepare weekly stock reports and shortage/excess analysis.

6. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure lenses are stored with temperature and dust-free norms required for optical products.
  • Ensure safety standards within the warehouse (PPE, equipment usage, stacking safety).
  • Manage and minimize breakage, loss, or damage.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Commerce, Supply Chain, Business Administration).
  • Diploma in Warehouse/Inventory Management is a plus.

Experience

  • 3–7 years of inventory or warehouse management experience.
  • Experience in optical/medical equipment/precision goods is highly preferred.
  • Experience managing large warehouses or multi-floor storage systems desirable.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of inventory control principles (FIFO, ABC Analysis, Stock Reconciliation).
  • Proficiency in inventory management software.
  • Strong data accuracy and numerical ability.

Soft Skills

  • Leadership and team management.
  • Strong communication skills (Tamil + Basic English).
  • Problem-solving and ability to work under pressure.
  • Organizational discipline and attention to detail.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Stock accuracy rate (>98% accuracy).
  • Order picking & dispatch accuracy.
  • Reduction in stock discrepancies.
  • On-time delivery performance.
  • Optimal stock turnover and minimized dead stock.
  • Damage/breakage control.

Salary Range (Typical for Chennai)

(You can adjust as needed)
₹25,000 – ₹45,000 per month, depending on experience and expertise in optical industry.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Someone who has previously worked in an optical warehouse (lenses, frames) or pharmaceutical/medical devices distribution.
  • Highly disciplined, careful with delicate products.
  • Comfortable managing staff and operations across multiple floors.
  • Tech-friendly and process-driven.
  • Physically active and able to move around the warehouse floors as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
