Roles and Responsibilities of an Interior Designer 1. Client Consultation Meet with clients to understand their needs, goals, preferences, and budgets. Translate client vision into practical, functional, and aesthetic design solutions. 2. Concept Development Create design concepts, mood boards, and visual presentations. Develop initial space planning, layout ideas, and color palettes. 3. Design Planning Prepare detailed interior design plans, including floor plans, elevations, and 3D renders. Select furniture, materials, lighting, textiles, wall finishes, and accessories. Consider ergonomics, sustainability, safety, and accessibility standards. 4. Budgeting & Cost Estimation Prepare cost estimates and monitor budgets. Source materials and products within budget constraints without compromising quality. 5. Project Coordination Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals. Supervise on-site work to ensure adherence to design specifications. Manage project timelines, deliveries, and installation schedules. 6. Technical Documentation Produce technical drawings, construction documents, and design specifications. Ensure compliance with building codes, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements. 7. Material and Vendor Management Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and craftsmen for procurement and custom work. Evaluate material samples and negotiate contracts when necessary. 8. Quality Control Conduct site inspections during and after project completion. Ensure design intent is realized accurately and to quality standards. 9. Trend Research & Innovation Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies. Experiment with innovative designs while aligning with client expectations. 10.
