Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and experienced HVAC Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the installation of HVAC systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. This role requires a deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and building systems, as well as strong problem-solving and project management skills. Key Responsibilities: System Design: Design HVAC systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for a variety of building types. Load Calculations: Perform detailed heat load and cooling load calculations to determine system capacity and specifications. Equipment Selection: Select appropriate HVAC equipment, such as chillers, boilers, air handlers, and ductwork, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with building codes. Drafting and Modeling: Create detailed HVAC design drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and develop 3D models as needed. Specification Writing: Develop comprehensive project specifications, including materials, installation practices, and performance requirements. Project Coordination: Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate HVAC designs with other building systems. Compliance and Standards: Ensure that all designs meet local, state, and federal building codes, as well as industry standards such as ASHRAE, and LEED. Energy Analysis: Conduct energy simulations and analyses to optimize system performance and minimize energy consumption. Cost Estimation: Prepare cost estimates for HVAC systems, including materials, labor, and equipment costs. Technical Support: Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and troubleshooting issues. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of design processes, calculations, and decisions for future reference and quality control. Qualifications: Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in HVAC design, preferably with experience in both residential and commercial projects. Technical Skills: Proficiency in HVAC design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and simulation tools like Energy Plus or Trane TRACE. Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is preferred. LEED accreditation is an advantage. Project Management: Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and ensure timely delivery. Analytical Skills: Ability to perform complex calculations and simulations to optimize HVAC system design. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to clients and team members. Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in design work and documentation. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient building systems. Knowledge of the latest advancements in HVAC technology, including smart HVAC systems and renewable energy integration. Experience working on LEED-certified projects or other green building certifications. Work Environment: Office-based role with occasional travel to project sites for inspections and meetings. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients. Involves working under tight deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
