Job Description

As Head – Bar Mill , responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the 1.4 MTPA Bar Mill , ensuring achievement of production, quality, and cost targets in alignment with organizational goals. Entrusted with overseeing the entire spectrum of mill operations, including planning, production, maintenance, and manpower management. Accountable for implementing best practices in quality assurance, lean manufacturing, and operational excellence. Also leads initiatives focused on continuous improvement, technological upgradation, and innovation, fostering a culture of employee engagement and capability development. Key Responsibilities: Lead end-to-end operations of the Bar Mill, including reheating furnace, roughing/intermediate/finishing stands, cooling beds, bundling, and dispatch. Ensure achievement of daily, monthly, and annual production targets (volume, yield, quality, recovery). Drive efficient mill utilization, reducing downtime, and improving TPH and OEE. Collaborate with QA/QC and process metallurgy teams for quality enhancement. Ensure high equipment availability and reliability through effective AMC/vendor management. Lead a team of engineers, supervisors, and operators. Foster skill development, training programs, and a culture of safety, discipline, and accountability. Strong technical knowledge of bar mill processes, mill stands, rolling theories. Proven track record of managing a mid/large-capacity bar mill. Leadership, communication, and analytical skills with strategic thinking. Optimize consumption of power, fuel, rolls, guides, and other consumables. Monitor and control department budgets, CAPEX and OPEX. Implement automation and digital monitoring tools (like Level 2 systems, SCADA). Enforce strict safety and statutory compliance as per company policy. Drives best practices and industry benchmarking in with technological innovation, process automation, and equipment modernization to improve throughput, product quality, and overall customer satisfaction. Demonstrates a strong commitment to people development by leading employee engagement initiatives and capability-building programs, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and high performance. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Production Volume vs Target Yield % and Rejection Rate Specific Power/Fuel Consumption Mill Availability and Downtime Manpower Productivity Safety Performance (LTIFR, Incidents) Desired Profile: Qualification: B.E/B.Tech - Metallurgy/Mechanical/Production Engineering. Experience: 15+ years in the steel industry with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a Bar Mill.
