JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Floor Supervisor Reporting To: Nursing Director Role Purpose: Responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring the smooth operation of nursing activities on their designated floor/s. This role involves supervising patient care, managing staff schedules, co-ordinating with consultants and operations staff. Key Responsibilities: Assess Patient Care Requirements: Conduct rounds on the designated floor(s) to evaluate patient needs and ensure they receive appropriate care. Monitor patient acuity levels and adjust care plans accordingly. Staffing and Scheduling: Develop and implement staffing plans for shifts based on the number and acuity of patients and the availability of staff. Ensure that there are sufficient nursing staff members on each shift to meet patient care needs. Feedback and Coaching: Provide feedback and coaching to nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care. Mentor and support staff to improve performance and professional development. Training and Development: Provide on-the-job training for new staff members. Ensure that all staff members are up to date with the latest nursing practices and protocols. Clinical Problem Solving: Serve as a resource for staff to help solve clinical problems. Assist staff with complex or challenging patient care situations. Incident Management: Provide immediate follow-up, documentation, and communication of incidents to the appropriate authority. Ensure that incidents are managed and resolved promptly and effectively. Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations (Code alerts) and provide assistance as necessary. Coordinate with the healthcare team to manage emergency situations efficiently. Coordination with Security: Work with the security supervisor to ensure that hospital visitor policies and other safety measures are implemented effectively. Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Administrative and Operational Support: Act as a resource for identifying and solving administrative and operational problems. Coordinate with the nursing director, assistant nursing director, and ward incharges to ensure smooth operations. Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and staff performance. Implement and monitor infection control procedures. Ensure the proper use and maintenance of medical equipment. Shift Management: Anticipate actual or potential problems that may occur during the shift and set priorities accordingly. Work collaboratively with nursing and ancillary staff to solve problems in a fair and consistent manner. Communication and Liaison: Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, patients, and their families. Maintain good public relations with patients’ relatives and the public, projecting a positive image of the hospital. Contact appropriate management personnel for assistance with problem-solving in a timely and appropriate manner. Performance Evaluation and Compliance: Evaluate the performance of nurses on the floor. Ensure that nurses comply with the uniform and dress code policy of the hospital. Ensure that NABH standards are followed by nurses. Administrative Duties: Take care of administrative matters related to patient admissions, discharges, and death protocols. Ensure that RMOs (Resident Medical Officers) on duty attend to patients as required. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the management. Competencies required: Knowledge, skills, attitude: Knowledge Essential · In-depth knowledge of nursing procedures. · Knowledge of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare. · Proficient in medical terminology. Desirable · Competent in solving the problem. The Individual: (qualification and experience) Essential BSc or Diploma (GNM) in Nursing from an accredited university / institute Proven work experience as a nursing supervisor. Minimum 8 years of experience as a nursing professional. A valid nursing license. Desirable · MSc in Nursing KRA · 100% patient satisfaction. · 100% Nursing Care Satisfaction. · 100% nursing care documentation as per NABH and other accreditation bodies. · 100% incident report to be submitted.
