Flight Control Engineer – UAV Systems (R&D)

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and validate

  flight control algorithms

  for

  unmanned aerial systems (UAS)

  including

  fixed-wing, VTOL, FPV, and loitering munition

  platforms.
• Collaborate with Embedded and Avionics teams to

  integrate sensors, IMUs, GPS, and payload instrumentation

  into flight control systems.
• Analyze and interpret

  flight telemetry, sensor fusion data, and PID responses

  to fine-tune system stability and maneuverability.
• Evaluate and document

  aircraft handling quality, control response, and mission performance

  under varying flight conditions.
• Create and maintain

  Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  for flight testing, tuning, and safety-critical operations.
• Support

  assembly, calibration, and ground-testing

  of flight-ready airframes and electronics.
• Develop and optimize

  sensor fusion pipelines

  (IMU + Vision + GPS + LiDAR) using

  ROS/ROS2

  frameworks.
• Implement

  autonomous navigation, mission control, and failsafe logic

  for tactical UAV platforms.
• Deploy

  onboard AI pipelines

  for object detection, terrain mapping, and target tracking using edge processors (Jetson, Raspberry Pi).
• Integrate and test

  MAVLink communication

  between flight controllers (Pixhawk, CubePilot, etc.) and companion computers.
• Contribute to

  R&D for next-gen flight autonomy

  , stability augmentation, and hybrid propulsion systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• B.Tech/M.Tech

  in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Proven hands-on experience with

  PX4 or ArduPilot

  flight stacks (firmware, tuning, and mission configuration).
• Solid foundation in

  flight dynamics, control systems, and nonlinear control theory

  (PID, LQR, MPC).
• Experience in

  simulation tools

  such as Gazebo, AirSim, or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Familiarity with

  probabilistic estimation (Kalman Filters, SLAM)

  and

  optimization algorithms

  for UAV navigation.
• Experience in

  computer vision (OpenCV)

  and

  AI frameworks

  (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Working knowledge of

  geospatial datasets, DGCA/IN-SPACe regulations

  , and

  BVLOS operational standards

  .
• Proficiency in

  GCS software

  (Mission Planner, QGroundControl, DJI Assistant).
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to

  debug control loops, analyze flight logs, and tune UAV response

  for real missions.

Preferred / Bonus Skills

• Hands-on UAV flight testing experience (manual + autonomous).
• Experience with

  VTOL transition tuning, swarm coordination, or formation control

  .
• Familiarity with

  secure communication protocols
