Director of Software Engineering Tools and Practices [T500-19269]

Key Responsibilities

• Work with engineering leaders in both Best Buy US and India to define and evolve the engineering tooling strategy to support modern software development practices.
• Help establish and grow a center of excellence focused on improving how works gets done through engineering tooling, standards, and practices to drive consistency, innovation, and operational excellence across global teams.
• Develop and implement strategies for engineering talent mobility, creating pathways for skill growth, role transitions, and leadership development across geographies and domains.
• Drive adoption of modern engineering standards and practices in both Best Buy US and India, ensuring teams are trained, equipped, and supported through change management, enablement programs, and ongoing coaching.
• Measure and report on the effectiveness of tools and practices in improving developer productivity, software quality, and team agility, using both quantitative and qualitative metrics.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and bring forward new technologies and methods that improve the developer experience and software delivery performance.
• Work in partnership with the US and BBY India Engineering, Product Management, Experience Design (XD) leads, and the BBY India hub leader.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience designing and delivering software, using modern engineering tools and practices including test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous deployment, and DevSecOps practices with a bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience. Including:
• 6+ years of experience managing and leading engineering teams and managing managers
• Direct leadership involvement in transforming engineering ways of working and modernizing legacy applications
• Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders and larger audiences across all levels of the company. Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills
• Proactive and dynamic - able to identify and resolve issues quickly
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in parallel
• Capable of influencing a wide range of stakeholders at all levels of the company

Preferred

• Experience working in an omni-channel retail environment and/or large enterprise.

• This position is based in Bengaluru.
• Best Buy™ India operates under a hybrid work model (in office / remote) with an expectation for employees to be in the office three days a week – Generally, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
