Database Administrator

A database administrator (DBA) with 5 years of experience in MySQL and PostgreSQL is responsible for the management, optimization, security, and troubleshooting of database systems. Typical duties include overseeing performance, backups, security compliance, and collaborating on database solution design with other teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, administer, and optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL databases across development, testing, and production environments.
• Monitor database performance and execute regular tuning for maximum efficiency.
• Implement, monitor, and test backups, perform recovery and disaster recovery planning.
• Design database architecture, create tables, indexes, and ensure data integrity.
• Ensure database security through proper access controls, encryption, and compliance with data protection regulations.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
• Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and other IT teams on database solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents promptly.
• Automate routine tasks using scripting and implement maintenance plans.
• Document database environments, schemas, maintenance activities, and standard operating procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in database administration, focused on MySQL and PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in writing, analyzing, and optimizing SQL queries.
• Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Sound understanding of database security practices and compliance.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems.
• Scripting abilities (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and performance monitoring.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Exposure to cloud database platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) is advantageous.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently or in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
• Certification in PostgreSQL or MySQL is an added advantage.
• Experience with other RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle) is beneficial.
