We are seeking candidates with expertise in air pollution to generate evidence-based insights that can inform and drive mitigation efforts. The role calls for proficiency in statistical techniques and mathematical modelling, coupled with a strong understanding of core air pollution concepts. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to analyse and visualise data effectively, drawing actionable conclusions that can support policy and practice. A thorough grounding in bottom-up emission inventory development is essential, along with familiarity with the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and working knowledge of monitoring–evaluation–learning frameworks. The role also entails conducting comprehensive reviews of academic literature and best practices to deliver high-quality research outputs, with a focus on air quality indicators, implementation strategies, and their evaluation.

Responsibilites
Collect and analyse diverse datasets to generate insights on air pollution.
Develop and maintain bottom-up emission inventories.
Contribute to multi-disciplinary projects through documentation, proposal writing, report preparation, project development, and drafting of technical reports and other knowledge outputs
Conduct policy gap analyses and identify drivers of policy change through literature review and stakeholder engagement.
Collaborate with CSTEP’s Air Quality Observations and Modelling teams to develop air quality indicators tailored to the Indian context.
Participate in conferences, workshops, and training programmes to strengthen expertise on air pollution risks.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in a discipline related to air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, general science, environmental science, environmental economics, engineering and public policy, or similar disciplines from a recognised university
Experience
2–4 years
Skill Set
Strong knowledge of NCAP, city action plans, XV Finance Commission reporting, and broader aspects of air quality management and policy in India.
Familiarity with mitigation technologies and demonstrated experience in cost analysis.
Expertise in financial modelling and techno-economic assessment will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages, such as GIS, Python, R, or similar.
Experience working with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral); proficiency in Kannada, Punjabi, or another regional language will be an asset.
