Job Description: Commis Chef (Indian & Continental)

Position: Commis Chef 1,2,3
Department: Kitchen
Location: Mumbai
Reports To: Head Chef

Role Overview

The Commis Chef will assist in the preparation and cooking of high-quality Indian and Continental dishes, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and adherence to food safety standards. This role is ideal for a passionate and detail-oriented individual looking to hone their culinary skills in a dynamic kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation:
  • Assist in preparing ingredients for cooking, such as washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables, and portioning meats.
  • Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistent flavor and presentation.
  • Cooking Assistance:
  • Cook Indian and Continental dishes under supervision, including curries, bread, grilled items, pasta, and sauces.
  • Maintain consistency in taste, portion size, and presentation for all dishes.
  • Quality Control:
  • Check the freshness and quality of ingredients before use.
  • Ensure that all dishes meet the establishment’s quality standards.
  • Hygiene & Safety:
  • Adhere to kitchen hygiene protocols and maintain cleanliness in workstations.
  • Follow food safety regulations and proper storage practices.
  • Inventory & Supplies:
  • Assist in monitoring stock levels of ingredients and notify supervisors when supplies are running low.
  • Handle kitchen equipment responsibly and report any maintenance issues.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with senior chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Be open to learning new techniques and contributing ideas for menu improvements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education & Experience:
  • Certification/Diploma in Culinary Arts or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a kitchen, focusing on Indian and/or Continental cuisines.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of Indian and Continental cooking techniques.
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and food preparation procedures.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personal Attributes:
  • Passion for cooking and willingness to learn.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality dishes.
