The position of Chief Structural Design Expert (Elevated) is the key position in these BIDs.Missions/Main Duties
- Design Leadership and Technical Authority: 🏗️ Serve as the final Technical Authority for all elevated structural designs (viaducts, flyovers, stations), providing strategic direction, validating design concepts, and ensuring the application of best practices in dynamic analysis and load assessment.
- Code Compliance and Design Standards: Mandate and strictly enforce adherence to relevant national and international codes (e.g., IRS, Eurocodes, AASHTO, specific rail design manuals) for all structural components, paying special attention to seismic design, fatigue life, and dynamic effects from semi-high-speed train operations.
- Viaduct and Rail-Structure Interaction (RSI): Oversee the complex design analysis for the elevated structure to minimize vibration, deflection, and acceleration under high-speed train loads. This includes critical design input to ensure smooth interaction between the track system and the viaduct structure (RSI).
- Interface Management and Coordination: Manage all technical interfaces between the structural design and other disciplines, specifically the Trackwork, Overhead Equipment (OHE), Signaling masts, and the Architectural/MEP elements within the elevated stations to ensure seamless integration and load distribution.
- Quality Assurance and Design Review: Implement a rigorous Quality Assurance (QA/QC) process for all structural deliverables, leading independent design checks, peer reviews, and the formal approval of all design calculations, drawings (GA/Detailing), and technical specifications before construction commences.
- Value Engineering and Constructability: Champion Value Engineering (VE) initiatives to optimize material consumption and construction efficiency (e.g., maximizing the use of pre-cast segments/girders) without compromising safety or service life, while ensuring designs are practically constructible within the tight urban constraints.
Profile/Skills
- Graduate in Civil Engineering and Post Graduate in Structural Engineering with working Knowledge of reading, writing and speaking in English.
- Minimum 25 years post minimum qualification experience in detailed structural designs in Infrastructure projects.
- Relevant Experience - 15 years’ experience for Detailed structural design of Elevated stations and Viaduct for the Rail Based Passenger Transit System as Structural Designer or equivalent position.
- The period of relevant Experience at the position immediately below the proposed position in organization shall also be considered but its weightage for the period shall be 50%. (For example, 02 years will be considered as 01 year).
- Eligible Assignment - Must have Experience of one "Eligible assignment" as Detailed design consultancy services or Proof consultancy services comprising of structural designs of Elevated Viaduct, Elevated stations having concourse and platform level for any Railway Project (Operational Speed 160 kmph or more) as Structural Designer or equivalent position.
- The period of "Eligible assignment" at the position immediately below the proposed position in organization shall also be considered but its weightage for the period shall be 50%. (For example, 02 years will be considered as 01 year).
- If assignment period is more than 2 years on a particular project, the number assignment will be considered as follows: Min. 4 years = 2 Assignments Min. 6 years = 3 Assignments
