What You’ll Do
The incumbent will lead the execution of programs and provide technical leadership in the research and development of Eaton’s Data Center Cooling products. This role will define the cooling technology roadmap and drive the development of high-performance solutions, including creating and validating conceptual cooling layouts for next-generation high-performance data centers.The position involves working across air, liquid, and hybrid cooling technologies, leveraging industry-standard design tools to produce layouts, schematics, and digital models that integrate seamlessly into digital twin environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop advanced cooling solutions such as Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), rear-door heat exchangers, liquid manifolds, hot aisle containment systems, chillers, and facility water systems.
- Evaluate and develop new cooling technologies for data center future products
- Collaborate with global partners, customers, and cross-functional Eaton teams to deliver innovative, efficient, and reliable cooling systems.
- Ensure close integration of designs with mechanical and electrical engineering teams for safe, optimized end-to-end system performance.
Eaton India Innovation Center (EIIC) is looking for Cheif Engineer I, Data Center - Thermal Management, focused on Data Center Thermal Research to develop advanced cooling and thermal management technologies. This position is based at our office in Magarpatta City, Pune.
- Technical Leadership - Drive Data Center cooling solution programs, engineering reviews and ensure adherence to technical standards. Provide guidance on complex technical issues and mentor junior engineers.
- Innovation & Problem Solving – Evaluate new technologies and solution approach, drive continuous improvement in design processes and methodologies. Resolve technical challenges and implement best practices for reliability and performance.
- Strategy contribution - Contribute to overall data center architecture strategy, aligning with business objectives; deliver robust, future-ready solutions data center segment.
- Program governance and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless implementation. Ensure robust documentation and adherence to safety standards.
- Project Execution - Oversee end-to-end Data Center cooling solutions development lifecycle, from concept to validation. Ensure timely delivery of engineering work packages within scope and budget.
- Evaluate conceptual cooling system layouts for air, liquid, and hybrid-cooled data centers and develop digital twin platforms
- DevelopThermal technology roadmap and evaluate and integrate emerging cooling technologies (CDUs, rear-door HX, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersion, advanced containment).
Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in mechanical or electrical engineering or Energy systems or related field
- 15+ years of experience in data center energy systems, electrical infrastructure, cooling or related domains.
Skills
- Deep knowledge of data center power architectures (Transformers, SST, UPS, PDUs, Switchgear, MV and LV architectures)
- Deep knowledge of air, liquid, and hybrid cooling systems (CDUs, RDHx, manifolds, chiller plants, heat reuse) for data centers.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability best practices in data centers (energy usage, water use, heat reuse, metrics).
- Excellent communication skills — comfortable engaging with executives, engineers, and customers alike.
- Track record of publishing, presenting, or contributing to standards/industry consortia (ASHRAE, OCP, IEEE, etc.).
- Familiarity with Autodesk design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, CFD platforms) and integration with digital twin environments.
- Experience with ECLASS/Ecl@ss systems and relevant certification.
- Experience with advanced visualization ecosystems like USD (Universal Scene Description) and NVIDIA Omniverse.
- Business development or product strategy experience in a technology-driven environment.
- Exposure to USD (Universal Scene Description) and NVIDIA Omniverse for advanced visualization and digital twin integration.
- Hands-on familiarity with liquid cooling components (cold plates, manifolds, CDUs).
- Knowledge of sustainability and efficiency practices in data centers (energy efficiency, water use, heat reuse).
