About the Team:
The Taxation team is a critical component of PayU's Finance Organization, responsible for ensuring compliance with tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions where PayU operates. Our team works closely with cross-functional departments including Legal, Accounting, and Business Operations to navigate the complex landscape of fintech taxation. We handle direct and indirect tax compliance, transfer pricing, tax planning strategies, and regulatory reporting while supporting PayU's rapid global expansion. The team prides itself on staying ahead of evolving tax regulations in the digital payments industry and providing strategic tax guidance to support business decisions.
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated Taxation Intern to join our dynamic Finance team for a 6-month internship program. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in corporate taxation within the fast-paced fintech environment. The intern will work directly with senior tax professionals and gain exposure to various aspects of tax compliance, research, and analysis. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a career in taxation, particularly in the digital payments and financial services sector.
Responsibilities:
Assist in preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
Analyze and reconcile tax-related data from various systems and prepare supporting documentation for tax filings
Conduct research on tax regulations, updates, and interpretations relevant to PayU's business operations
Maintain and update tax compliance calendars, checklists, and process documentation
Support indirect tax compliance activities including GST/VAT return preparation and reconciliation
Assist in gathering data and documentation for transfer pricing studies and compliance requirements
Help with quarterly tax provision calculations and supporting schedules
Monitor tax law changes and updates across relevant jurisdictions and prepare summaries for the team
Identify opportunities to streamline tax processes and contribute to automation initiatives
Work with Accounting, Legal, and Business teams on tax-related queries and projects
Requirements:
Currently pursuing or recently completed Bachelor's/Master's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field
Strong academic performance with focus on taxation subjects
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookup, data analysis)
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and tax concepts
Familiarity with GST/VAT regulations (preferred)
Understanding of corporate taxation fundamentals
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Previous internship experience in taxation, accounting, or finance (preferred)
Knowledge of tax software or ERP systems (preferred)
Understanding of fintech/digital payments industry (preferred)
Professional certification pursuits (CA, CMA, CS) - ongoing or planned (preferred)
12-month full-time internship commitment
Immediate availability preferred
